The Baseball Complex ... Aerial Views
On Wednesday 1st June 2011, the outfield lights on Diamond One were replaced and updated - while working at the top of one of the poles, a contractor snapped a few photos of the Complex and the surrounds - also included are shots of Trinity Beach Road ... and our home of twenty six years!! - there are twelve photos on this page and they can only be described as MAGNIFICENT!! - have a look!!
The Baseball Complex ... Aerial Views
Replacing globes and repairs to the lights needed to be done - and naturally, while the cherry picker was working, more aerial photos were taken from the tops of the poles - there are shots from the outfield looking in and the infield looking out over Trinity Beach - this page includes thirteen photos of which three are panoramic shots and, like the ones above, they can only be described as MAGNIFICENT!! - have a look!! - Saturday 6th April 2013
************************************************************************************************************
The Baseball Complex ... Trees and Gardens ... Entrance and Between the Fields
Planted back in the late 1980's by Geoff and Sharon Roneberg, the trees near the entrance to the complex and those bewteen the two fields needed a 'bit of sorting out'!! - some were growing under other trees, and others were simply unnecessary and in the way of garden beds that Leon Nelson, the Grounds Controller, wanted to now establish - working bees were held during January and February 2013 and lots of pruning and tree felling was completed - click here to see a series of over ninety photos taken during the work, including a spectacular shot of what has become known as "Sharon's Tree"
---------------page updated on Thursday 14th March 2013 - added one more photo - planting has begun in the gardens between the diamonds
---------------page updated on Saturday 13th April 2013 - added four more photos - another garden bed which has been filled with soil
The Baseball Complex ... Trees and Gardens ... Entrance
Following the above work on the trees and palms near the entrance, garden beds have now been established around three groups of trees - each has been edged with sleepers and the gardens are being filled with soil - here we see the initial work, with the sleepers in place and Leon has started adding the soil - eleven photos - Tuesday 19th March 2013
---------------page updated on Saturday 13th April 2013 - added seven more photos - filling the garden beds with soil
The Baseball Complex ... Trees and Gardens ... Entrance
The large palm tree near the Diamond One first base dugout has been given a 'haircut' - four photos - during a working bee on Saturday 29th June 2013
************************************************************************************************************
Diamond One ... Home Run Fence ... Perimeter Fence
A brand new +2 metre high fence ... which goes all the way from dugout to dugout !! - while this fence was being constructed, new bullpen areas on both the first base and third base sides were incorporated - the result looks fabulous !! - this page has links to ninety nine photos and these have been divided into various sections - the fence was completed during early November 2010
---------------page updated on Friday 19th November 2010 - added two more photos - Sponsors Signs have been moved to Diamond Two
Diamond One ... Home Run Fence ... Green Mesh
The +2 metre high fence looks great ... but the home run part of it lacked 'definition' - it was decided to hang green fence mesh along this part and the result is TERRIFIC!! - the photos show the effect perfectly - seven photos - at the moment, just over half the fence is finished and this was done during a Working Bee on Sunday 27th March 2011
---------------page updated on Saturday 9th April 2011 - added six more photos including a panoramic - the mesh / fence is now finished
---------------page updated on Sunday 22nd May 2011 - added six more photos - the field dimension signs are now in place - sponsor details
Diamond One ... Home Run Fence ... Perimeter Fence
Wallaby's have taken a liking to the lush green grass on this field ... and that is resulting in an awful mess as you can imagine!! - the fence is too high to jump so they are digging under it - old fishing net was cut to size and this was hung along the bottom of the fence and then pegged to the ground - six photos - taken during a working bee on Saturday 28th July 2012
Diamond One ... Home Run Fence ... Sponsor's Signs
New sponsors and their signs are being organised and at the moment there are six hanging on this fence - seven photos - and this page was last updated on Tuesday 25th September 2012

Diamond One ... Home Run Fence ... Top Rail
The top rail has been given a coat of bright yellow paint - eleven photos - taken during a working bee on Saturday 29th June 2013
************************************************************************************************************
Diamond One ... Replacing and Updating the Lights
During Cyclone Yasi in February this year, a couple of the light heads were spun around and these needed to be fixed - and the opportunity was taken to replace and update all the lights on the four outfield poles - this page includes photos from the start of the work until the lights were turned on in the early evening ... and it is a great series of thirty two photos!! - the work was done on Wednesday 1st June 2011
Diamond One ... Replacing Globes / Repairing the Lights
Five globes were not working so a cherry picker and an electrician were organised to get them fixed before the start of the 2013 Season - however, there was an unknown "feathered friend" problem which meant that nothing really happened!! - this page includes emails to the League Executive along with seventeen great photos - the work was done on Saturday 6th April 2013
************************************************************************************************************
Diamond One ... Foul Poles
The field is almost ready for action - one of the jobs remaining to do is the erection of the Foul Poles down each of the lines - there were some unused poles near Diamond Two - these are in perfect condition and it was decided to reuse them - but first they had to be dug out and this page includes twenty six photos showing this job from start to finish - Saturday 19th February 2011
---------------page updated on Sunday 27th March 2011 - added two more photos - topping up the holes with sand
Diamond One ... Foul Poles
As you've seen above, the poles have been dug out of the ground - and there is a big lump of concrete on each one ... and this has to go!! - Geoff and Sharon borrowed a sledgehammer and started swinging till the job was done - twenty nine photos, including 'before' and 'after' shots - Sunday 20th February 2011
Diamond One ... Foul Poles
Two poles had to be made from the three - one was cut in half and these sections were welded to the other two - and also mesh needs to be added to the 'fair ball' side of each pole - there are six photos on this page showing this work being done - Saturday 9th April 2011
---------------page updated on Saturday 30th April 2011 - added six more photos - cleaning up the poles and applying the etch primer

---------------page updated on Friday 11th May 2012 - added four more photos - repairs and replacing the coir mats in the mound
Diamond One ... Batter's Boxes / Catcher's Box / Mound
Due to normal wear and tear, both of these areas needed maintenance - the righthanded batting box needed more unfired clay bricks and some of the coir mats in the mound had worn out - a check was made of the astro turf in the catcher's box, but this was still in perfect condition - nine photos - taken during a working bee on Saturday 28th July 2012
Diamond One ... On-Deck Batter's Boxes
By the end of each season, these two areas turn into patches of "churned up dust"!! - it was decided to update them with circles of astro turf ... and the result is perfect!! - three photos - during September 2012
Diamond One ... Mound
Above is a note from June 2011 saying that coir mats were added to the mound to try and stop holes being dug - these were quite successful but they broke up very quickly and left bits of 'rope' all over the mound - it was decided to try an astro turf mat and it was placed in the mound on Saturday 12th January 2013 - eight photos taken during the work
---------------page updated on Saturday 9th February 2013 - added two more photos - following a social game on Friday night - the mat looks okay!!

Diamond One ... Infield / Outfield Grass Edges ... Skinned Tracks and Playing Area
The running tracks and infield skinned areas were completed during September 2009 and since that time, the bauxite and underlayers have compacted - and also some has washed or blown away - this has resulted in a 'step / ridge' between the bauxite and the grass - it was becoming too much ... in places, it was at least the diameter of a baseball !! - it was decided to sweep up the bauxite, spread out crusher dust and then respread the bauxite - this page shows the work to be done, the crusher dust being delivered and the bauxite being swept up - twenty two photos - Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th May 2012
Diamond One ... Infield / Outfield Grass Edges ... Skinned Tracks and Playing Area
Continuing on from the above page, these photos show the spreading and levelling of the crusher dust, rolling all the edges around the skinned area, and then the bauxite being respread - the field was then heavily watered - and the batter's boxes were permanently marked ... and now the diamond is ready for the first games of the 2012 Cairns Baseball League Season!! - twenty four photos - Thursday 10th and Friday 11th May 2012
Diamond One ... Infield Grass ... Scarification
"Scarifying an area is the process of removing the excess build up of dead turf leaves and decaying roots from your lawn" - and for the first time ever, this process was carried out!! - a machine was borrowed from the Paradise Palms Golf Club and with their Greenskeeper's advice and assistance, the infield grass was treated, cleaned up, fertilized and watered - this page includes more details on the process along with fifteen 'start-to-finish' photos - Tuesday 19th March 2013
