Back on Saturday 12th January 2013,
a grandstand was taken away from near the scoreboard and in front
of the Clubhouse
and it was repositioed next to it's 'twin' on the spectator mound
along the third base line

These stands now
needed a bit of shade so today the work gets underway

This roll of mesh is about to transform
itself into shade ...
... and firstly it is rolled out
...
... and cut to the required length
Cable ties were then used to secure
end pieces of steel into each length
Two lengths are required for each
grandstand and these had to be overlapped then securely joined
Meanwhile, Leon Nelson, the Grounds
Controller, is fixing anchors for the shade roof ...
.
... and he is now ...
.
... securing springs to where the
shade cloth will be anchored to the top of the backnet
He was the only one at the Working
Bee with the "fortitude aka guts" to get up on
the ladder !!
.
The first cover is now being hung
and Leon is assisted by Kahlia Pepper ...
... and then Ric Doo wanders over
to give some advice
.
The first grandstand is done and
Kahlia and Leon are tightening the turnbuckles
.
.
That one is finished and then they
start work on the second grandstand ...
... while Roz Doo, Sharon, Brandon
Doo and Ric make up the two required lengths of shade cloth for
the other stand
The springs go on the backnet ...
... and now the 'roof' is being
hung in place
Tightening the turnbuckles ...
... and look at this ... FINISHED !!
... and PERFECT SHADE FOR
ALL THE SPECTATORS

The next day
and everything is
ready for the first games of the
Cairns Baseball League 2013 Pre-Season Competition
The shade area on the first base
side of the diamond was also completed during this Working Bee
