Diamond One

Replacing Globes / Repairing the Lights

well ... trying to !!

.

NOTE - there are 17 photos on this page and it may take a few extra seconds to completely download
Yes, I know that's a lot ... but it's much better to have them all on one page so you can see from 'the start to the finish'
and, if you have a broadband internet connection, they will not take too long to display ... just be a little patient !!

?? What Needs To Be Done ??

Geoff to League Executive ... Friday 22nd March 2013

Diamond One Lights

"All players participating in Night Games are required to supply their own Illumination"

For at least two seasons there has only been 'limited light' on Diamond One because:-
..........................infield pole first base ... one light out
..........................infield pole third base ... two lights out
..........................centre leftfield pole ... one light out
..........................pole near batting cage ... one light out

It is both unbelievable and disappointing but I have not been asked by any "A" Grade Team to join this year's competition so I will not be directly affected
But it must be getting a bit dark-and-dangerous out there

The blown infield globes are nearly 50% of the lighting in the 'busiest' part of the field !!

It is my understanding that the globes are here ( ?? )
and we are just waiting for someone to turn up who happens to be driving one of these ...

Probably not likely to happen ... and it might be time to bite the bullet and spend the cash ??

And maybe fixing up the electrics on the infield first base pole so it doesn't make that awful racket when it's turned on

Might also be a good idea to get it done soon too before any rain as I'm sure Leon would get 'just a touch upset' if there were wheel tracks all over his new infield !!

Leo Ward the Lightman ... 0412 428 556

Have a really, really nice day !!

PS - I got an ulterior motive as well ... when the outfield lights were done back in June 2011, I was able to get
..THESE..terrific aerial shots
Want some more now, looking out from the infield !!

Reply from Tim Grau

Hey Geoff

At the last League meeting our President 'promised' to have the lights fixed within two weeks

If he doesn't deliver he has pledged to buy everybody one of these to wear for the season !!

The cherry-picker has arrived

The first pole to be looked at is the one at left centrefield ...

.

... and here is
Kahlia Pepper
ready to go up !!

... with Leo Ward (electrician) putting on his safety harness

.

.

This is where Kahlia will be going !!

Here she is looking down from the top ...

... with Roger Dienhoff on the ground floor !!

.

.

Kahlia is back on the ground ...

... and is busy "texting" and "facebooking" her friends !!

A look from a distance

The machine is now on the move ...

... with Roger at the controls !!

Next stop was the infield third base pole

.

Straight up ...

... and straight down !!

Finally the one on the infield near first base was checked out

?? At The End Of The Day ??

Geoff to League Executive ... Monday 8th April 2013

Diamond One Lights

This machine arrived on Saturday and we all spent a very pleasant day driving from light pole to light pole

The job = replace five light globes
The result = nothing !! ... five lights still not working !!

W T F !!

These guys eat steel cable ...

And that's what the problem is at the top of the poles and the globes may be okay
We will not know until the cables are replaced
As I understand it, one of
..THESE..is now being organised to drop each light assembly onto the ground where they'll be repaired then lifted back into place ... maybe this week ... ??

That should make Leon happy as he prepares for Opening Day !!

"BIRD BOUNTY"

The Cairns Baseball League has put an "Official Bounty" on all white cockatoos
Simply drop all your dead birds into the Scorer's Box on Diamond One and Anne Kippin will give you five bucks for each one
