Saturday 7th May 2011

Back on Saturday 16th April, in an effort to stop holes being dug and to save on maintenance time,
hard setting clay was added to the batter's and catcher's boxes ... this is shown below and more details can be seen HERE

The clay was compacted and left covered

Below is how it looks now ... ready for the Season Opening Day tomorrow !!

Friday 13th May 2011

Back in December 2010, the bases on Diamond Two were reshaped and extended
and all the details and photos of this work can be seen by clicking HERE

At that time the soil was not "loosened or agitated" and the bases had become too hard

The National Schoolboys Titles are being held in Cairns, commencing on Monday 23rd May 2011
The bases need to be perfect for this ... and the work needed to be done

Phil Thomas brought out one of these rotary tillers

Quick and Easy To Use

All three bases were completed in a short period of time with a great result

It is the first time I have seen one of these in action ... impressive !!

Phil starts work on first base ...

... then on to second ...

... and now third base gets the treatment

Saturday 14th May 2011

All the bases were given a 'quick rake' and then lightly compact by driving the mower round-and-round each one

Sharon then dampened them down, starting at first base

NOTE - they still need further raking before the Schoolboys Titles to remove root clumps, small stones, etc

And here they are ... ready for the Cairns Baseball League Fixture Games tomorrow
