Wednesday 9th May 2012

The truck arrives ...

... with twenty two cubic metres of crusher dust

Half the load is being dunped between first and second base ...

.

... and the rest around the shortstop area

.

Ready for spreading tomorrow

.

?? Why is it Needed ... What is Going On ??

The running tracks and infield skinned areas were completed during September 2009
and since that time, the bauxite and underlayers have compacted ... and also some has washed or blown away

This has resulted in a "step / ridge" between the bauxite and the infield / outfield grass as shown in the five photos below

It was becoming too much ... in places, it was at least the diameter of a baseball !!

It was decided to sweep up the bauxite, spread out the crusher dust and then respread the bauxite

A major undertaking ... particularly considering the first game of the 2012 Season was just two days away !!

Thursday 10th May 2012

A bobcat with a sweeper attached to the bucket ... and it's a Magic Machine !!

.

It was able to collect all the bauxite down to the base layer

.

But there is always a bit of shovel work to do, eh, Leon ??

Working around first base ...

... and then the left side of the Diamond

Notice the heap of bauxite ... the sweeper was able to collect all the material necessary to recover the field

.

The third base to home running track is now being done ... and you can see the heaps of bauxite in the background

The astro turf mat is the catcher's box and it is fitted to a heavy rubber base and stops holes being dug
