between the Baseball and Soccer Grounds

... and to the Site Supervisor ...

This was the view as you entered the front gate of the Baseball Complex
with the Soccer grounds to the left and the Baseball to the right

As you can see, the bank is mowed and maintained ...

... until you arrive at this section !!

For years, this area has looked like this
Due to water run off and erosion, the bank is too rough and steep to mow
plus there are some "hazardous weeds" in amongst this mess !!

The Cairns City Council offered to clean it up and revegetate this part of the bank

Initially, as shown below, bagasse was delivered

The 'serious work' got underway on Thursday 14th April 2011

I was not able to get to the fields until late in the day by which time the work was almost completed

Lots and lots of Trees--=--Shade for the Future

A final delivery of bagasse ...

... and the bobcat starts to spread it out

The trees get their first drink of water

!!--FINISHED--!!----and----!!--FABULOUS--!!

Looking from the Clubhouse ... and just imagine this view in a few years time !!

The Council will maintain this new "nature strip" ... with the assistance of the Cairns Baseball League

Our input is very important
Even though there are 'water pellets' in the bagasse, the initial watering is vital to the success of this landscaping

Two Years Later ... Saturday 2nd March 2013

The trees have grown extremely well ...

... but, unfortunately, so have the weeds !!

Yes, you could say it's a bit overgrown ...

... and urgently needs a good clean up !! ... all 110 metres of it !!
