2004 --- 2005

JANUARY - playing with the Queensland team in The Claxton Shield (Australia's National Baseball Tournament) during January, Brett was selected as The Helms Award winner for the 'Most Valuable Player'

APRIL to SEPTEMBER - he then departed for the United States to join up with The Portland Sea Dogs (the "AA" affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) where he was also named as the 'Most Valuable Player' and competed in the "AA" All Star Game

AUGUST - a Silver Medal as a member of the Australian Baseball Team competing at The Athens Olympics


SEPTEMBER - a holiday in London, Rome and Paris with his sister Tanya

WEDNESDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER - returned to Cairns for "rest-and-relaxation"

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER - played for Shogun/Heat Baseball Club in The Cairns Baseball League, and was presented with an 'Achievement and Support Award' at the League's Presentation Night

MONDAY 1st NOVEMBER - departed for Venezuela, having been invited to join The Leones del Caracas Baseball Club which participated in The Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional


MONDAY 29th NOVEMBER - resigned with The Boston Red Sox for the 2005 season

TUESDAY 21st DECEMBER 2004

Brett was playing rightfield for the Leones del Caracas
during a game against the La Guaira Tiburones

During the bottom of the third innings, a Tiburones batter hit to rightfield
and here is a note from one of the game reports which appeared in a Caracas newspaper
"Luis Hernández falló con línea a la derecha para una gran atrapada de Brett Roneberg"
and the literal translation is
"Luis Hernández failed with line to the right for a great one trapped by Brett Roneberg"

A TERRIFIC DIVING CATCH!!!


In making the catch, Brett landed on his left shoulder
and it was giving him 'some discomfort'
He remained in the game but was replaced in the top of the eighth innings



The shoulder problems continued
and he decided to return to Australia to have it examined

SATURDAY 25th DECEMBER - arrived in Cairns after the flight from Venezuela

WEDNESDAY 29th DECEMBER - had an MRI on his left shoulder and click here to read the official medical report

FRIDAY 21st JANUARY - scheduled for surgery at The Avenue Hospital in Windsor Melbourne

SATURDAY 26th FEBRUARY -

WEDNESDAY 2nd MARCH - as part of his rehabilitation program, Brett's physiotherapist gave him a number of exercises to be done in a pool - here are nine photos taken during one of these sessions -
