Antique
Burl Walnut Display Cabinet
On
cabriole legs with a serpentine front
and featuring ornately panelled glazed doors and glass shelves
Circa 1900
... and there
are another 8 photos below
Over many years
Sharon has collected and been given many "bits-and-pieces"
... and these have been packed away in a box up the top of a wardrobe!!!
She has wanted a display for them for some time
Then, on her birthday this year, we got the incentive to get one
Tanya gave her a Regency cup and saucer set ... and the question
was "Where do we put it?"
We tracked around a number of second-hand and antique stores looking
for something suitable
Sharon wanted something "old and nice" but we didn't
see anything suitable
Our last stop was at Kinsella's Antiques
As she walked in the door she saw it !!
But then she saw another similar cabinet, also from around the
1900's
She walked from cabinet to cabinet, studying each one and trying
to make up her mind
And this is her choice - and it's a very nice unit
Now, how much do these
types of things cost?
Well, if there was one figure in the price, it would mean under
$10
Two figures would mean under $100
Three figures would mean under $1000
Well, this price had three figures in it !! - high in the three
figures !!
But it is nice, and Sharon has done a great job of arranging and
displaying her "stuff"
Below are photos
of two of the "treasures" that are now on display
LEFT - the birthday gift
from Tanya
RIGHT - this set (Crinoline Lavender Lady Trio) was given
to Sharon by Geoff's Mum
It was originally given to her parents - James and Louisa Meers
as a wedding present on 27th October 1909
(Sharon found this photo on an Antique Auction internet site
and the set was valued at $45.00)
