-
Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!

Akron Aeros - home game at Blair County Ballpark
Playing first base - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) LHP - runner at first base/none down - called/called/ball, and hit the next pitch "fairly softly" towards first base - the fielder played second base and got the out - Brett safe at first base on a 'fielders choice' - to second base on a hit, to third on a ground out, and scored on another hit
------2) LHP - runners at first and third base/two down - ball/ball/called, followed by a drive into centrefield but straight at the fielder - out "F8"
------3) LHP - bases empty/two down - in the commentators words, "Brett scorched that pitch down the rightfield line" - a ground rule double because the ball got stuck in the fence - the commentator said that "Brett was on the way for a triple if it didn't get caught up" - and scored on an outfield error
------4) RHP - runner at second base/two down - swing&miss, and then a ground ball to third base - out "5-to-3"
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "The Curve scored in the home sixth, aided by an error on Aeros left fielder Luke Scott.
Chris Duffy hit a short fly ball down the line, and Brett Roneberg scored when it bounced off Scott's glove"

Email from Geoff to Jason Dambach - Game Commentator
Hi Jason,
and, yes, we were listening!!!
Heard you give us a "hello call", and then all of a sudden you said "Hey Geoff" as Brett hit his double down the rightfield line!!!
Naturally we enjoyed that call!!!
At the moment, the Curve are on top 3 runs to 1 at the end of six innings.
Go Curve!!!
Regards,
Geoff and Sharon.

Sunday 13th July 2003 - Game #92

Did not play

Email from Brett
Hi.
Not playing today - and "very pissed" that I am not!!
Not much else to say.

Monday 14th July 2003 - Game #93
Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!
Akron Aeros - home game at Blair County Ballpark
Playing leftfield - batting at #4
Had 4 plate appearances - 3 at bats - and a walk
------1) RHP - led off the innings - foul/call/ball/ball/ball/ball - walk - stole to second base - and scored on a hit
------2) RHP - runner at first base/two down - ball/ball, and the next pitch was "driven into rightfield for a base hit" - single - to second base on a walk to the next batter - and scored on a hit
------3) RHP - led off the innings - first pitch, and "hit sharply, lined into rightfield but out on a diving catch by the Aeros fielder who robbed Roney of a base hit" - out "F9"
------4) RHP - runner at first base/two down - ball/called/swing&miss/swing&miss - strike out!!!
Fielding
(1) In the top of the second innings, an Aeros batter drove a pitch into the gap at left-centrefield - Brett took off after it and in the commentators words, "it was a great running catch by Roneberg"
(2) Error!!! - in the top of the sixth inning a similar situation arose - but this time the commentator said that "Brett did a good job to get over there, and the ball was in his glove but he couldn't squeeze it" - ruled an error - it was two down, and this put a runner at first base, but the next Aeros batter was out - so no damage as far as the scoreboard went!!!
Base-running
After walking in his first plate appearance, Brett stole to second base - the commentator mentioned that "Brett is a better than average baserunner" and also "he is a very good baserunner, who picks his spots well"
Stolen Bases

Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!

Erie SeaWolves - road game at Jerry Uht Park
Playing first base - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) RHP - runner at second base/two down - called, then popped up the next pitch "high on the infield" - out "F4"
------2) RHP - runner at first base/two down - drove the first pitch "fairly deep to rightfield, but the fielder back-pedalled and made the catch" - out "F9"
------3) RHP - led off the innings - first pitch hitting again, and a pop up to short rightfield - the second-baseman went back and made the catch - out "F4"
------4) RHP - bases empty/two down - "drove the first pitch he saw into rightfield for a base hit" - single - stole to second base - left stranded at the end of the innings
Heard during the Game
As Brett stepped in for his fourth at bat, the commentator said "that this could be Brett's last chance to extend his hitting streak to ten games" - and then he picked up the single!!!
Fielding

In the bottom of the third innings, a SeaWolves batter dropped a ball short in the infield - it was fielded by the pitcher, who slipped and "threw from his backside" - the ball clipped Brett's glove, and went out to rightfield, and the runner reached second base - the play was ruled an error on the Curve pitcher - both Brett and the Curve Manager, Dale Sveum, argued with the home plate umpire, saying that the runner was inside the diamond and impeded the throw - however, the umpire did not change his mind, which is not really a surprise!!!
Base-running
After reaching in his fourth at bat, Brett stole to second base - the commentator said that "Brett has specialised in that delayed-steal this year, stealing eleven bases and only being caught three times"
Stolen Bases

Email from Brett
Hit the ball hard twice tonight.
And the fly to left that I hit - I wish I got under it just a little more.
But still hitting the ball hard.
I really want a good series at this park, so I pressed a little hard in my third at bat and chased a bad pitch.
But still a good day.

From the Curve web site - "News and Notes" - following Thursday's game
"Brett Roneberg singled in the eighth inning to run his hitting streak to ten games"

Friday 18th July 2003 - Game #95
Trying to listen to the game - broadcast was terrible!!!

Erie SeaWolves - road game at Jerry Uht Park
Playing rightfield - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) LHP - (did not hear) - out some way!!! - struck out here or his fourth at bat
------2) LHP - led off the innings - foul/foul/foul/swing&miss - strike out!!!
------3) LHP - (did not hear) - bases empty/two down - fly to centrefield - out "F8"
------4) ?HP - (did not hear) - don't know about base runners, but there was at least one/two down - out some way!!! - struck out here or his first at bat

Email from Brett
Well that was definately a bad day.
Had some quality swings, but didn't put anything out into the field for any results.
I wasn't very happy with the day at all,
but tomorrow is a new day and I want to do something then.
Wish me luck.
See ya

From the Curve web site - "News and Notes" - following Friday's game
"Brett Roneberg went 0-for-4 Friday, ending a ten-game hitting streak"

......and another note from the Curve web site
"Brett put together a 10-game hitting streak from 6/29-7/17, during which he batted 0.306 (11-for-36)"

Saturday 19th July 2003 - Double Header - Game #96 and #97

Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!! - but missed some of it!!!
Erie SeaWolves - road game at Jerry Uht Park
Game One
Playing first base - batting at #5
Had 3 plate appearances - 3 at bats - and a walk
------1) RHP - (did not hear) - A TWO RUN HOMER!!! - 2 x RBI'S!!! - during the Post-game Show, this hit was replayed and here is the call - "Brett crushed that ball into the street behind the right-centrefield wall!!!"
------2) RHP - (did not hear) - walked and scored
------3) RHP - runner at first base/one down - called/ball/foul, followed by a ground ball towards shortstop which resulted in a "6-to-4-to-3" double play
------4) LHP - led off the innings - foul, AND THEN HIS SECOND HOME RUN OF THE GAME!!! - 1 x RBI!!! - and the call by the commentator was "A big blow by Roneberg, driving that ball to deep right!!!"
A very costly error!!!
It's the bottom of the fifth innings, and the Curve are leading 8 runs to 1 - the SeaWolves have a runner at second base with two down, and the next batter drove the ball towards first base and the commentator said it "went through Brett's legs for an error"!!! - that put runners at first and third base when the innings should have been over!!! - the next batter walked to load the bases, and the next SeaWolves player belted a grand slam!!! - and they scored four un-earned runs moving the score to 8 runs to 5!!! (and I bet Brett was relieved when the Curve held on to win the game, helped by his own second home run!!!)
Fielding
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the SeaWolves had a runner at first base - the next batter hit into a double play through second base - the final out was at first base, and according to the commentator, "Roneberg made a great stretch to make the final out on that play"
Game Two

Playing first base - batting at #4
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) LHP - led off the innings - first pitch hitting, and drove it up the middle but the second-baseman got across - out "4-to-3"
------2) LHP - runner at second base/two down - called, and then a ground ball to third base and the fielder bobbled the ball - Brett safe at first base on an error - left stranded at the end of the innings
------3) LHP - runner at second base/one down - ball/called, and a ground ball towards second base - out "4-to-3"
------4) LHP - runners at first and second base/two down - first pitch hitting - AND DROVE IT DEEP INTO THE RIGHTFIELD CORNER!!! - A TRIPLE AND 2 x RBI'S!!!
For all the "Home Run" and "Triple" details simply click here

Sunday 20th July 2003 - Game #98
Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!

Erie SeaWolves - road game at Jerry Uht Park
Playing first base - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) LHP - bases empty/one down - called/ball/foul/ball/foul tip into the catcher's glove - strike out!!!
------2) LHP - runner at first base/none down - called/swing&miss/swing&miss - strike out!!!
------3) LHP - led off the innings - called/ball/ball/called/foul/foul/foul/ball, and then hit a deep fly ball but it was caught by the rightfielder on the track in the corner - out "F9"
------4) RHP - led off the innings - ball/foul/ball, followed by a high fly ball into centrefield - out "F8"

Monday 21st July 2003 - Game #99

-
Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!

New Haven Ravens - home game at Blair County Ballpark
Playing leftfield - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) RHP - led off the innings - called, then a fly ball into centrefield - out "F8"
------2) RHP - runner at first base/one down - called/called/foul, and then "fisted" the next pitch into rightfield for a hit - single - the commentator said that it "looked like Brett was unsure, checked his swing, but decided to follow it through" - went to second base on another hit - left stranded at the end of the innings
------3) RHP - runner at first base/one down - ball/ball, followed by a hit down the rightfield line - a stand up double!!! - I think I heard the commentator say "it was hit hard and bounced over the first-baseman's head" - the runner advanced from first to third base - Brett went to third on a ground out, and see "Base-running" below for the rest of the story!!!
------4) LHP - runners at first and second base/one down - ball/ball/foul/foul, and then a ground ball to second base and the force out was made there - Brett safe at first on a 'fielder's choice' - to second base on a hit, but was left stranded at the end of the innings
Fielding
(1) "What a play"
------ "A strong perfect throw" ------ "Completely fooled this broadcaster"
Jason Dambach was commentating the game, and these are a few of his comments - in the top of the third inning, the Ravens had a runner at second base with two down - the next batter hit towards Brett in leftfield, and it looked like the runner would score - but the above comments tell the story!!! - a fantastic "inning ending 7-to-2 play" - I could hear the fans in the background!!! - yelling and screaming!!! - it would have been a great throw and play to see!!!
(2) In the top of the sixth inning, Brett picked up another inning ending outfield assist by catching a "low liner at his shoe tops" and doubling up a baserunner at second base
Base-running

Brett's third at bat was in the bottom of the sixth inning - the runner ahead of him eventually scored and that was the tying run (2/2) - and Brett was at third base as the go-ahead run and the Curve were two down - the batter shaped to bunt, but pulled out or missed, and Brett was off the base too far and was caught in a run-down play and eventually tagged out by the Ravens first-baseman - in the commentators words, "that was not good base-running by Roneberg" - caught stealing

Email from Ashley Wertz - a Curve fan who was at the game
Hi Geoff.
It only rained before the game but stopped.
We lost the game 4-3.
but Brett made an amazing throw to home base from the middle of left field that saved us.
The throw was just in time and got the runner out!!!
If it wasn't for that throw I don't believe we would have came back.
But we came back from a 2 run deficit to tie the game but Jeff Bennett over threw to first base and it cost us two runs.
An unfortunate error that cost us the game.
Bye,
Ashley.
