Email from Brett - before the game
I am in the clubhouse before 'BP'
and I just got done hitting for an hour with the roving hitting guy, Jeff Manto.
We had a good time and a good talk.
We just hit off the tee onto the field to be able to see the result,
and feel the body working for me and to be able to see if I have a "shitty swing" or not!
It felt great to have a good hitting guy there to be able to work with me.
We were the only ones on the field and we got a lot done.
Mainly just being 'slow in my load' and feeling the weight back until the explosion when the pitch is coming in,
and it feel great which is still good for me.
I feel strong mentally and I am ready to continue it today.
Hope you can listen - I am playing first base and hitting 7th.
I will keep hitting and get back up there soon.
See ya

After Brett's first at bat, the commentator said that "the Curve couldn't capitalize on a big opportunity to get ahead of a tough pitcher like Seung Song"
Fielding
(1) During the top of the third inning, the Senators had a runner at second base with two down - the next batter hit a ground-ball past the Curve third-baseman and the diving shortstop - the ball went into leftfield, and "Roneberg's throw to the plate was wide" and the runner scored

Email from Brett
By the way, the first baseman missed the tag when I was picked off.
I 'danced around him' and was safe.
He is a team mate from last year and told me after the game that he missed!!
And how did it sound when I dived after that ball in the 9th??
Tipped off the end of my glove.
Would have been a pretty good one!!
Email from Geoff
I guess from your email that you have read my game notes.
The 'tag out'.
Don't matter!!!
It's in the scorebook!!!
You were out!!!
The 'diving effort'.
Yep, it was a good call - like that one you took last year that we have on video!!!

Heard during the Game

Bottom of the third inning - Chan Perry at bat, and Brett waiting on deck - the pitch comes in, and it's a hard foul ball of Perry's bat - and according to the commentator, "it almost hit Roneberg!!!" (and I could hear the spectators "oohing and aahing" in the background so it must have been close!!!)
Fielding
During the top of the third inning, the Senators had a runner at second base with two down - the batter hit a ball through the left side of the diamond - Brett charged in, "got the ball on the second hop and fired to the plate" - easily beat the runner who saw the catcher had the ball, stopped, and just waited to be tagged out!!! (also see the next game report)
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "Brett Roneberg gave Altoona the lead for good with an RBI double to score Perry.
Roneberg then protected the lead in the third inning with an outfield assist.
Mata tried to score from second on a two-out single by Noah Hall and Roneberg threw him out at the plate by about ten feet.
The Curve salted the game away with a pair of runs in the seventh against Senators' reliever Benji DeQuin.
Jose Castillo singled and scored when Perry's single scooted by the right fielder Hall for a two-base error.
Roneberg knocked in Perry with a single for a 6-1 Altoona advantage.

Perry also scored three runs--the third time he's done that in a game this season.

Duffy went 3-for-5 with a triple, his fourth of the year, and Roneberg finished 2-for-4 with a double on the night"
(4) "Brett Roneberg, who last season helped the Senators reach the Class AA Eastern League finals, drove in two runs against his former teammates.
He had an RBI double off Gustavo Mata during the Curve's two-run first inning and a single off reliever Benji Dequin in Altoona's two-run seventh"

Emails from Brett - before the game
(1) Just sitting here now and it's raining again.
We will play
but it just means no 'BP' on the field and that is what I really need and want.
I hit again yesterday on the field by myself and I feel good.
Getting that one hit a game it seems and I am close breaking out!
(2) Sitting here in the clubhouse again and it's still raining.
There is not much chance of being delayed, so we just work out in the cages but we will start on time.
I am playing leftfield again and hitting 5th.
Just got done hitting again for a while.
It may not sound it but I feel great.
Everything is there and it's just a matter of doing it in the game.
I WILL!!
Wish me luck
See ya

We all sure do,
plus as you know, your Mother prays to "That Guy In The Sky"!!!

Geoff
Brett had a good one tonight!!!
Email from Ed Leipold - one of the "Curve Psycho Fans", a group of season ticket holders
Great win for the Curve tonight, Geoff,
and Brett was right in the middle of things.
Couple hits, couple rbi, and a perfect, one-hop, DOA strike to cut down a baserunner at home plate.
I know you heard it all, and I know you agree with me when I say its a much more enjoyable game, when the Curve win.
Maybe they're on their way.
Only cliche in the whole evening,....I went to Mass before the game, as I do every Saturday, and Brett was out signing pre-game autographs and I missed him.
Ed
"Two guys felt pretty good about the Curve's win Saturday night" - click here to read an article published in the Altoona Mirror newspaper - Brett and the Curve Manager, Dale Sveum, talk about Brett's batting in this game - along with their thoughts on his '7-to-2' throw!!!

......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "A six-run seventh inning rallied the Altoona Curve past the New Britain Rock Cats, 7-4 Tuesday before 6,194 at New Britain Stadium.
Trailing 3-0, the Curve put together its decisive outburst with five hits, a walk, and an error.
New Britain right-hander Jon Pridie, who had shutout Altoona (31-30) on two hits over the first six innings, didn't survive the onslaught and was charged with the loss.
Chris Duffy led off with a walk and, with one out, Shawn Garrett singled.
Brett Roneberg doubled off the right field wall to get the Curve on the board.
The Curve tacked on a run in the eighth against Moreno on three consecutive, two-out singles.
Roneberg, Bonifay, and Navarrete recorded the hits with the latter collecting his third RBI"
(2) "Rock Cats starter Jon Pridie cruised for six innings, but ran into trouble when Chris Duffy drew a leadoff walk in a six-run seventh inning.
Duffy, who is tied for the team lead with 24 base-on-balls this season, was plated with a double by Brett Roneberg to put his team on the board"
(3) "The trouble for Pridie started when Chris Duffy drew a leadoff walk in the seventh.
Three batters later Duffy scored on a Brett Roneberg double to end Pridie's shutout and make it 3-1 Rock Cats"
(4) "A leadoff walk to Chris Duffy became a run when Shawn Garrett singled and Brett Roneberg drilled a hanging curve off the right field wall for an RBI double"

Email from Geoff
2.12am Wednesday morning over here.
Dark and Raining a bit, and "the other person" is sound asleep.
Just writing to say that the double sounded great!!!
According to the commentator, you put "a charge into that pitch", and "off the wall and missed a home run by a few feet"!!!
Bye,
and going for more coffee.
Email from Tanya
Sounds like another good game...
Email from Brett
Didn't miss it by much.
I hit it good, and it ended up probably a little closer than a few feet.
Not strong enough.
Felt good to have a good game - and to get the rally started.
See ya

Wednesday 11th June 2003 - Game #62

---
Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!

New Britain Rock Cats - road game at New Britain Stadium
Playing first base - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 2 at bats - and a walk and a sacrifice-bunt
------1) RHP - runners at first and second base/two down - called, and chopped the next pitch towards second base - out "4-to-3"
------2) RHP - runner at first base/one down - ball/called and he "disagreed" with this call!!!/ball, and then "A BLAST OVER THE RIGHTFIELD BARRIER"!!! - "A TWO RUN SHOT"!!! - home run, 2 x RBI's, and 1 x run scored
------3) RHP - ball/ball/ball/called, and then another ball - walk - out on a double-play hit by a following Curve hitter
------4) LHP - the pitching change was made by the Rock Cats as Brett stepped to the plate - called, then a sacrifice bunt, which the commentator said was "a pretty good one up the first base line" - successfully moved the runner to second base
Error!!!
In the bottom of the seventh inning a Rock Cats batter drove a ball towards first base - and here is what the commentator said - "......it went through Roneberg's legs!!! - he had it covered but brought his glove up too early!!!" - the runner reached second base, and there were none down - but thanks to a great catch by Bonifay in leftfield followed by two ground outs, the runner did not score!!!
Fielding
During the bottom of the eighth inning, a Rock Cats batter hit a ball "sharply towards first base" - and Brett got this one!!! - and the commentator said that "Roneberg made a nice pick on a ball to his right, turning what looked to be a difficult play into a routine 3-to-1 out"!!!
Was there going to be a fight???

In the top of the eighth inning, the Curves Ray Navarette was pulled up by the home plate umpire for having too much pine tar on his bat (it went too far up the handle) - had to change bats - he then had his at bat, in which he grounded out - but as he was running past first base, he had "a few words" with the Rock Cats pitching coach, who must have said something to him about this incident - according to the commentator, Navarette had to be kept away from the pitching coach by Brett and the Curve Manager, Dale Sveum!!!
