AEROS OUTLAST THE CURVE - 4/3 IN 15 INNINGS
It took 15 innings and four hours and 26 minutes, but the Akron Aeros trimmed the Altoona Curve, 4-3 Saturday before 5,694 at Blair County Ballpark.

Corey Smith's two-out bloop single to right scored Maicer Izturis with the deciding run in the top of the 15th.
Aquiles Pinales, who pitched three hitless innings of relief, made the tally stand up to pick up the win for Akron.
The Aeros evened their season mark at 11-11.
Brady Borner saw his scoreless innings streak end at ten in taking the defeat for Altoona (10-11).
The game wound up tying a record for innings played at Blair County Ballpark, but it looked for a while like it might be one of the quickest.
Entering the eighth inning,
the Curve had a 2-0 lead on the strength of a sacrifice fly by Brett Roneberg, a home run by Kevin Nicholson, and seven scoreless innings from right-hander Ben Shaffar.
However, Akron rallied against three Curve pitchers in the eighth to take a 3-2 lead.
After Shaffar walked the first two men he faced in the inning, he departed in favor of Rick Palma.
The southpaw surrendered an RBI single to left-handed hitting Grady Sizemore to make it 2-1.
With one out, right-hander Todd Ozias was summoned to face right-handed hitting Ron Wright.
The former Curve first baseman hit a dribbler back to the mound.
Ozias pumped to second, then to home, before holding on to the baseball as Izturis crossed the plate with the tying run.
Wright was awarded an RBI infield single.
One out later, Victor Valencia delivered an RBI single to give Akron a 3-2 advantage.
The Curve made the lead short-lived with a rally in the bottom of the eighth.
With runners at the corners and one out, Roneberg counted his second RBI of the night with a game-tying single to center.

Chan Perry walked to load the bases against Akron reliever Rafael Betancourt.
The right-hander stiffened, though, to strike out Ray Navarrete and B.J. Barns in succession to keep the game tied.
Altoona also put the winning run in scoring position in the ninth, tenth, and 13th before succumbing.

In a bright spot, Chris Duffy, who went 2-for-7 on the night, tied a Curve record with three steals in a game.
Luis Figueroa (2000) and Shawn Garrett (2002) had achieved the mark in previous seasons.
The Curve has lost three straight overall and four in a row at home.

From the USA Today Minor League Baseball web site
Corey Smith drove home the go-ahead run in the 15th inning to lift the Akron Aeros over the Altoona Curve, 4-3.
Smith, who finished with three hits, laced a single into right field in the top of the 15th to drive in Maicer Izturis.
Grady Sizemore slapped a run-scoring single through the right side to start a three-run, eighth-inning rally for Akron.
Ron Wright followed with an RBI base hit and Vic Valencia singled to drive in Sizemore and give a 3-2 lead to the Aeros, who are 2-2 in extra-inning contests.
Aquiles Pinales (1-1) hurled three scoreless innings, fanning three, to earn the win.
Brett Roneberg drove in two runs, including a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the score at 3-3 for Altoona.
Kevin Nicholson hit a leadoff homer in the sixth for the Curve, who have lost three straight.
Brady Borner (1-1) surrendered one run and three hits over two innings of relief to suffer the loss.
