Last night I played well again and I hit the ball hard twice.
Fly out to the track into the wind again - homer anywhere else,
and then I smoked myself into a "6-4-3" double play - hit that one hard too.

Monday 14th April 2003 - no games scheduled

Wednesday 16th April 2003 - Game #11
Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!

Harrisburg Senators - road game at Riverside Stadium
Playing leftfield - batting at #3
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) RHP - ground ball towards second base - out "4-to-3" - was an RBI opportunity
------2) RHP - ball hit hard up the middle - single to centrefield - had a "3/0" count as was given the "green light" - scored on a homer
------3) RHP - very hard hit line drive, but straight at the second-baseman!!! - who was then able to double-up the runner at first base!!!
------4) LHP - strike out!!! - (called/called/ball/ball - and then "an awkward little swing by Roneberg" - swing and miss)
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "Glenn Davis' bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday gave the Harrisburg Senators a 6-5 victory over the Altoona Curve before 1,608 at RiverSide Stadium.
With the score tied 5-5, Albenis Machado led off the decisive frame with a double to right.
A sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk loaded the bases for Davis.
He promptly lifted a fly ball over the head of drawn-in left fielder Brett Roneberg for the game-winner"
(2) "Davis' single, launched over the head of Altoona's drawn-in outfield, came on a first-pitch, low-and-away sinker from Curve reliever Brad Guy.
Guy's pitch would be the last one of the night.
Davis, in the midst of a 1-for-19 skid, sent the ball over the head of left fielder Brett Roneberg and to the track"

Email to Brett
Hi,
and I'm listening!!!
Through the Senators home page and their internet radio link!!!
The Curve site still has the "update player notice" on it, so I had a look at Senators to see if they have fixed up their "terrible sound" that we had last season.
And they have!!!
They are now using Real Player.
They have just given the starting lineups, and you are in leftfield and batting at number three.
Game just started.
Duffy got a single up the middle.
Castillo out - Duffy to second base.
And then you came in to bat:-
---Ball - low and inside.
---Ball - outside.
---Out 4 to 3, and advanced the runner to third base.
Perry then flew out - inning over - no score
GOOD LUCK for the rest of the game.
During your at-bat, the commentators said that you "hit the ball sharply during Tuesday's game with no result".
That's about it.
Bottom of the first inning is just starting.
Bye, bye.

Brett rang following the game on Wednesday 16th April 2003
He had guessed that we all might be a bit concerned about his batting results and statistics.
Wanted to reassure us that "stats don't tell the whole story!!!"
He knows that we would be concerned, but he is very happy with "his swing" at the moment.
But "damn frustrated" with the results he's getting.
Most of the time he is hitting the ball "hard and well" but just not in the right place
Said he is saying quite a few "oh, golly gosh-es"!!!
And he felt like breaking his bat right at home plate after lining-out into the double-play today!!!
He hit that ball very hard - as I heard the commentator say during the game.
He is striking the ball "great", and has spoken to his coach and one of the infield/outfield co-ordinators and they told him to just keep swinging like he is - and the "luck" will come.
He might not play tomorrow as the Harrisburg Senators are starting with a lefty.
......and a note from Brett
yeh, he's right,
and I am a little F%$#&#$&%*#&$%#^%*#*#%^#*@ (translated = FRUSTRATED!!!)

Thursday 17th April 2003 - Game #12
Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!

Harrisburg Senators - road game at Riverside Stadium
Did not play
but had a "pinch hit" at bat in the top of the ninth innings - and received a walk

Email from Brett
Had a pinch hit today and walked.
Got the first pitch to hit and then didn't get another good one.
So I will be back in there tomorrow.
Hope to kick some ass!!
or just hit the ball soft and bleed one in!!

Friday 18th April 2003 - Game #13
Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!

Bowie Baysox - home game at Blair County Ballpark
Playing first base - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 3 at bats - and a walk
------1) RHP - hit straight back up the middle - single to centrefield - to second base and then scored on consecutive hits
------2) RHP - struck out looking!!! - (swing&miss/called/ball/ball/ball/called) - and was an RBI opportunity with runners and first and second base with two down
------3) RHP - ground ball towards second base - out "4-to-3"
------4) RHP - walk - (worked the count from 1 ball/2 strikes) - to second base (steal or defensive indifference?)
Fielding
During the game Brett made a couple of "low picks/saves" on throws in the dirt to first base - following these, the game commentator said that "Brett (and Chan Perry) have done a great job at first for the Curve this season"
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "The Curve opened the scoring with one out in the second inning by stringing together singles by Brett Roneberg, Ray Navarrete and Joe Caruso off Bowie starter Juan Rosario (0-2).
Roneberg scored on the hit by Caruso"

Email to Brett
Hi,
and thanks for following up with the "radio problems" and for the quick phone call from the dressing room
I am glad I did the Media Player download earlier this morning as it took just under an hour!!!
LOUD AND CLEAR NOW!!!
They have just given the starting lineups.
You're at first base - and #5 in the order.
Your spot is #3!!!
Now listening to the National Anthem - sounded like some sort of a choir.
GOOD LUCK, #17.

Saturday 19th April 2003 - Game #14

......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "The Curve plated single runs in the first, second, and fourth innings with Brett Roneberg (sacrifice fly), Chris Duffy (single), and Chan Perry (single) collecting the RBI"
(2) "1B Brett Roneberg singled, doubled and drove in a run"

Email from Brett

Monday 21st April 2003 - Double Header - Game #16 and #17

Listening to the game - live on internet radio!!!
Erie SeaWolves - road games at Jerry Uht Park
First Game
Playing first base - batting at #3
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) RHP - safe at first on a 'fielder's-choice' play - and scored a run on Garrett's homer
------2) RHP - lined-out to leftfield
------3) RHP - hit back up the middle, but knocked down by the second-baseman - out "4-to-3" - could have been an inning-ending double play!!!
------4) RHP - hit to first base - out "PO3" - and was an RBI opportunity
Second Game
Playing first base - batting at #3
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) LHP - line drive into right-centrefield - an RBI single - went to second base on the throw to home, then stole to third base, and scored on a hit
------2) LHP - a "rolling bunt hit" towards third base - Brett beat it out - an infield single - went to second on a hit, then to third base on a wild pitch - and scored a run
------3) ?HP - did not hear this at bat, but he didn't get a hit
------4) LHP - had a full count, then a "swing and a miss" - strike out!!!
Fielding - First Game
In the bottom of the sixth inning, a SeaWolves batter hit a high pop-up near first base - Brett dropped the ball!!! - and even though the play was in foul territory, the game commentator felt it should have been ruled an error on Brett - by the way, on the next pitch the batter hit a double off the wall, and only missed a home run by a couple of feet!!!
Baserunning - Second game
Brett was at second base following his hit in his first at bat - he took off for third, and made it easily without a throw - the commentator described it as "great heads-up baserunning by Roneberg", and said he stole the base "on the pitcher"
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "The Curve jumped on Erie starter Tim Kalita for four runs in the first inning of game two.
Brett Roneberg and Garrett had RBI singles and Chan Perry and Ray Navarrete had run-scoring doubles"

Email from Brett
......and I did OK again today,
but I only got two hits but two is better than none.
I hit five balls hard and got two hits.
Frustrating again,
plus I hit a ball that if i was left handed was way out and the wind just knocked it down in right centre.
Not sure if you heard it because I haven't gotten to the rest of your emails yet.
Felt good and I am still swinging great.
Want another homer or something - we will see tomorrow.
See ya.
