Finishing the tournament in seventh position with 2 wins and 5 losses, standout performances for Australia include:
Brett Roneberg - The rookie finished his first International tournament with a .333 batting average, making five hits from 15 at bats.

Shining performances from other NOC's have been:
Australia (2-5) finished seventh and will be disappointed with their hitting during the tournament. Only catcher, David NILSSON (.565 and six RBI's) was dangerous at the plate. Young first baseman Brett RONEBERG (.333) and Grant McDONALD (.304) were the only other hitters to go above .300.

Kids grow up fast in 2000
While our national baseball team didn't live up to early predictions of an Olympic podium finish under catcher-hitter David Nilsson, it did give a taste of things to come.
Hitter-outfielder Brett Roneberg first cut his teeth in the Australian Baseball League in his teens and made the Olympic team at the age of 21.
Plucked from Cairns in north Queensland, Roneberg has settled into a seven-year contract with the Florida Marlins major league franchise.

The Australian Baseball Federation asked the players to submit a short statement on their Olympic experience - these comments were then published on the ABF web site - this is what Brett had to say
“The Olympics for me was simply the best experience of my life. The whole Australian squad and country were behind you no matter what sport you played or what position you came in...everyone cared. We had the hopes and wishes of every Australian behind us and I think we did them proud. I will never forget the 2000 Olympics.
