Good afternoon Sharon Well – first of all – a big CONGRATULATIONS on putting in a submission for the CBWC Business Woman of the Year Awards! Most of the hard work is just about over and the fun is about to begin Firstly though, we still have the interviews with the judges Please don’t let this overwhelm you We have very carefully selected the panel of judges who are all absolutely wonderful local business people and will definitely make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed I can just about promise you that you will walk out of the interview with a big smile on your face! Your interview with the judges has been scheduled for - Thursday 17th September 2009 at 11.00am The interview will take up to thirty minutes and includes a three minute presentation by you in whatever form you desire If you have a powerpoint presentation, please bring your presentation on a disc or USB so we can have it loaded and ready prior to your interview The schedule is very tight, so your prompt arrival is very important Again, please remember to relax and just be yourself Your family, friends or colleagues have nominated you because they believe in you! I walked out of the interview and thought - "Oh
my God ... I nailed it"!! I even had a little cry when I rang Geoff I was so pleased with myself!! I wasn't even too nervous before the interview There were four people on the judging panel and one of them was one of our large business customers who thinks our Centre is the greatest! It was very informal and relaxing I decided against a visual presentation because everything was in my submission so I just 'talked the talk'!! ... we had five minutes Then they asked me questions about ----------how I manage, mentor and encourage my eight staff ----------how I deal with our budgets ----------how I monitor our progress and address our KPIs ----------how is a Business Centre different from a normal Post Shop ----------how do I try to grow our business ----------what innovations I had put in place ----------and lots of stuff like that The last question they asked was - "Why should you win this Award ... and don't be humble" Don't ask me where it came from but I flexed my new muscles and said - "Because I am the greatest!!" They all laughed - genuinely I think - hope!! Then I made a few more appropriate comments and that was it As I left one of the ladies said it is wonderful to hear someone speak with such passion and pride about their work Now who knows what they were really thinking but I know I felt great afterward and I know I spoke with confidence! We now have to wait until the Cocktail Party on Friday 2nd October when the finalists to be announced |
