innings to lead the Altoona Curve to a convincing 6-0 win over
the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in front of 5,901 at MerchantsAuto.com
Stadium
Shortslef, who entered the game with a 2-12 record over his first
22 starts, picked up his first victory since game one of a June
20th doubleheader at Erie
The 25-year old southpaw scattered five hits in the contest and
allowed only two New Hampshire base runners to reach second
Shortslef walked two batters and struck out two in the win
Olivo Astacio made his Double-A debut and worked two scoreless
innings to complete the Curve's third shutout win of the season
The 23-year old right-hander was called up from Class-A Lynchburg
on Tuesday
Altoona (62-55) is now 4-1 over the first five games of a season-long,
nine-game road trip
The Curve swept a three-game series at Portland to open the trip
and have now split the first two games of the weekend series against
the Fisher Cats
Altoona will finish the three-city, nine-game trip next week in
Binghamton
Offensively, the Curve were once again led by shortstop Javier
Guzman, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored to
improve to 11-for-19 (.579) over the first five games of the road
trip
Guzman, who also extended his current team-high hitting streak
to nine games, is batting .398 (37-for-93) since being activated
from his 2-1/2 month stint on the Disabled List with a left knee
injury
The Curve started the scoring in the top of the first inning against
New Hampshire starter Ty Taubenheim (0-1) when Jason Bowers led
off the game with a double to left-center field and scored two
batters later on Neil Walker's ground out to second
Taubenheim, who was making his first start for the Fisher Cats
since being sent down from Triple-A in the Blue Jays' chain, allowed
two runs over six innings in taking the loss
Peter Bergeron added a pair of hits and two RBI in the contest,
