Shortslef, who entered the game with a 2-12 record over his first 22 starts, picked up his first victory since game one of a June 20th doubleheader at Erie
The 25-year old southpaw scattered five hits in the contest and allowed only two New Hampshire base runners to reach second

Altoona (62-55) is now 4-1 over the first five games of a season-long, nine-game road trip
The Curve swept a three-game series at Portland to open the trip and have now split the first two games of the weekend series against the Fisher Cats

Altoona will finish the three-city, nine-game trip next week in Binghamton

Offensively, the Curve were once again led by shortstop Javier Guzman, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored to improve to 11-for-19 (.579) over the first five games of the road trip
Guzman, who also extended his current team-high hitting streak to nine games, is batting .398 (37-for-93) since being activated from his 2-1/2 month stint on the Disabled List with a left knee injury

The Curve started the scoring in the top of the first inning against New Hampshire starter Ty Taubenheim (0-1) when Jason Bowers led off the game with a double to left-center field and scored two batters later on Neil Walker's ground out to second

Taubenheim, who was making his first start for the Fisher Cats since being sent down from Triple-A in the Blue Jays' chain, allowed two runs over six innings in taking the loss

Peter Bergeron added a pair of hits and two RBI in the contest, including an RBI triple in the top of the fifth, which brought home Guzman with the Curve's second run

Shortslef, Curve starting to make things happen

The Curve are peaking at the right time, and it only helps matters to have Josh Shortslef finally starting to turn the corner
Shortslef enjoyed the best outing of what’s been a disastrous season Saturday night as he tossed seven shutout innings against New Hampshire
The Curve put together an all-around complete effort in beating the Fisher Cats, 6-0, at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium

Altoona once again reached its season high point of seven games over .500 but did not pick up a game on Erie in the Southern Division playoff race
The Curve trail the SeaWolves by 4-1/2 games with 25 contests remaining

Shortslef entered Saturday with a 2-12 mark, one loss shy of matching the franchise record
He showed signs of improvement two starts ago, giving up only one run in seven innings against Reading, then yielded six runs - though just two earned - in 4-2/3 innings his last time out against New Hampshire

Shortslef was much better this time around against the Fisher Cats, blanking them on five hits over seven innings with two strikeouts and two walks

The Curve gave Shortslef a quick lead as Jason Bowers opened the game with a double and scored on Neil Walker’s RBI groundout

Peter Bergeron tripled home Javier Guzman in the fifth to make it 2-0

Guzman drove in one of Altoona’s two runs in the seventh, then capped his big night with a two-run double in the ninth
He went 3-for-4, is batting .365, has a nine-game hitting streak and has hit .398 since coming off the disabled list July 7

Shortslef turned things over to the bullpen in the eighth, and Olivo Astacio finished it off with two scoreless innings in his Double-A debut

New Hampshire starter Ty Taubenheim (0-1) took the loss
