Brett back on the Disabled List - Monday 25th June 2007

A note from Brett on Sunday 24th June 2007
I know things haven't been going really well lately - and I am afraid it just got a little worse!!
I have hurt my hand again and I am going back on the Disabled List again tomorrow
I am pretty sure of this because I told Tim Leiper I couldn't swing
and that it will take some time just like before
I am very disappointed just as I am sure that you all are
There is nothing I can do now besides trying to rehab as best I can
and get healthy as quickly as possible
I feel like crap over here right now and might just go see a movie tonight to kill some time
and get my mind off of it all
But tomorrow I will be good again and do all I can to get better!!

A note from Brett on Tuesday 26th June 2007
Well, here we are again
I have been to the doctor again today and got an MRI like I did with my shoulder
It hurt a lot more this time when they put the dye in - and I about went through the roof!
Got the reading 'sort of' back tonight
The assistant read it and said it was a deep bone bruise and it should heel to 100% over time
Not sure how long that is just yet
I find out the final reading tomorrow but it should be okay
The bruise is in the same place where I broke it in January
Sucks!!
I am now going to go into rehab and I think I am staying here to do it
and I just hope it doesn't take too long
Also there are two more outfielders coming tomorrow
I have to talk to Brian Graham in the next few days about what they want me to do
I honestly am not sure about my playing time when I do come back
but we'll cross the bridge when we come to it
Just an update and I will be back online tomorrow

A note from Brett on Thursday 28th June 2007
No news yet - and I am going to take that as good news!!
The doctor didn't call or come bye yesterday so I will say that makes me feel a little better!!
Hope to hear officially today and I will email or call then

A note from Brett on Saturday 7th July 2007
With the hand, I have a doctor's appointment the first day after the All Star Game break
which is 10th and 11th July
I might get a pain killing injection if I need it - but it does feel a lot better
I have been doing a small range of motion exercises and it's improving
So hopefully after five more days I may even get to start swinging!!
I want to be ready and then have six weeks to finish the season
That is my ideal situation

A note from Brett on Thursday 12th July 2007
There isn't any really bad news - more so just news - not good or bad
The first MRI I had two weeks ago was done incorrectly, so I found out today
What they did see on the first one was two bone bruises but no definitive answer on the ligaments
So I am now having what's called a three injection arthrogram
They put dye in three different areas to see if there are any leaks
Had the first one today and I then have two more Monday
Then an appointment after them on Monday with the hand specialist
Hope it's good news!
As for now, there is no chance of playing til at least the first on the month in my mind
And with our lineup how it is right now, I don't know if I will play when healthy anyway
Not what I wanted to hear, but there isn't much I can do right now
except push my good news date back to Monday and just hope!

lineup, and that he "feels bad for the guy"

First Base Coach during the recent games

PART TWO
During the Curve Injury Report,
the commentator mentions that Brett is
an important part of the Curve lineup,
but there is no timetable for his return

A note from Brett on Wednesday 18th July 2007
Is all good!
Every scan I have had has said that it's all okay and that I am okay to resume activity
I will start small and slow and hope to progress to swinging in about a week or so
The doctor said it is going to hurt - probably a lot - but it's not doing further damage
so try to swing through it
He is going to give me some painkillers and I am going to go from there
If after two to three weeks of trying to play and it's still being sore,
I will go to Pittsburgh to see another hand specialist for a second opinion
But as for today, I am starting to do things!!
About bloody time, huh!!

Big hits key 5-2 Curve win over Harrisburg

The Curve used a pair of early solo home runs from Vic Buttler and Jason Delaney and a sixth-inning, bases-clearing double by Dave Parrish to earn a 5-2 win over the Harrisburg Senators Saturday evening at Commerce Bank Park in Harrisburg

Altoona (50-47) has won two of the first three games in the series against Senators (35-66)
Saturday's win was also the Curve's 100th all-time win against Harrisburg - the first team the Curve have reached the century mark against in all-time victories

Parrish's three-run double scored Steven Pearce, Andrew McCutchen and Javier Guzman and pushed the Curve's lead from 2-1 to 5-1 in the sixth
The veteran catcher also roped a double in the prior inning and finished the night 2-for-4 at the plate

Buttler's longball opened the Altoona scoring in the top of the first, while Delaney led off the second with his fifth home run
Both homers came off Harrisburg starter Beltran Perez, who was tagged with the loss to fall to 5-4 on the season

Meanwhile, Yoslan Herrera (5-5) turned in another solid performance to earn the win for the Curve
The Cuban-born right-hander allowed only one run in five innings to improve to 5-1 with a 1.89 ERA over his last seven starts after going 0-4 with a 6.57 ERA in his first 10 starts

Delaney, the Curve's hottest hitter entering Saturday's game, went 1-for-3 in the contest and is 16-for-24 (.667) over his last six games

Pearce went 1-for-3 to extend his current on-base streak to 32 games, leaving him just one win shy of matching Ronny Paulino's team record set during the 2004 season

Jason Bowers went hitless in five plate appearances to end his current team-high 12-game hitting streak

The Curve and Senators will wrap up their four-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon at 1.05pm
Right-hander Kip Bouknight (7-3, 3.80) was sent down from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday and will start Sunday's game against Harrisburg righty Jim Magrane (2-6, 3.52)

History made by Curve

Pitcher Yoslan Herrera continued his impressive second-half turnaround, and one big hit by Dave Parrish helped carry the Curve to a milestone victory Saturday night
Parrish drilled a three-run double that broke things open in the sixth inning and lifted Altoona to a 5-2 win over Harrisburg at Commerce Bank Park

It marked the Curve’s 100th victory all-time against the Senators, the most wins for the franchise versus any opponent

Vic Buttler hit a solo homer in the first inning, and Jason Delaney belted one in the second to give Herrera a quick 2-0 lead

Herrera has been the Curve’s top starter of late, posting a 2.18 ERA over his previous six outings
Herrera (5-5) gave up one run on four hits over five innings Saturday
He also worked around four walks to win his fourth consecutive decision

Harrisburg scored in the second to close within 2-1

It stood that way until the sixth, when Parrish came up with the bases loaded and one out
Parrish doubled to the gap in left-center, scoring Steven Pearce, Andrew McCutchen and Javier Guzman

Senators starter Beltran Perez (5-4) allowed four runs in 5-1/3 innings to take the loss

Pearce went 1-for-3 with a walk and single to reach base for the 32nd consecutive game, one shy of the Curve record

Jason Bowers was 0-for-4, snapping his 12-game hitting streak, while Delaney continued his hot hitting with his third homer of the week

Bouknight back
Right-hander Kip Bouknight returned to the Curve on Saturday after spending three weeks at Triple-A Indianapolis
Bouknight went 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA for Indy and is a welcome addition back to Altoona’s pitching staff
He has compiled a 7-3 record and 3.80 ERA in 16 games - 14 starts - for the Curve and will be on the mound Sunday against Harrisburg

Altoona shuts down the Senators 5-2
Sens streak of scoring six or more comes to end in loss

In front of 4,842 on Saturday night, the Senators offense finally stalled in a 5-2 loss to Altoona

The Curve had two solo home runs and a three run double to account for their five runs
Vic Buttler and Jason Delaney hit the two solo homers and Dave Parrish the three-run double

The Sens first run scored on a run scoring single off the bat of Beltran Perez to trim the Altoona lead to 2-1 in the second, but the Sens then were shut down by the Curve

Javi Herrera hit his second home run this week, with two out in the ninth, to account for the Senators final run

Marco Yepez had two of the six Sens hits and Dee Brown had a pinch-hit single

The Senators streak of scoring six or more runs comes to an end at eight games

Harrisburg is now 35-66 on the season while Altoona is 50-47

The final game of the four-game series is Sunday afternoon at 1.05pm with RH Jim Magrane going for the Sens against RH Kip Bouknight
