Brett back on the Disabled List - Monday 25th June 2007

A note from Brett on Sunday 24th June 2007
I know things haven't been going really well lately - and I am afraid it just got a little worse!!
I have hurt my hand again and I am going back on the Disabled List again tomorrow
I am pretty sure of this because I told Tim Leiper I couldn't swing
and that it will take some time just like before
I am very disappointed just as I am sure that you all are
There is nothing I can do now besides trying to rehab as best I can
and get healthy as quickly as possible
I feel like crap over here right now and might just go see a movie tonight to kill some time
and get my mind off of it all
But tomorrow I will be good again and do all I can to get better!!

A note from Brett on Tuesday 26th June 2007
Well, here we are again
I have been to the doctor again today and got an MRI like I did with my shoulder
It hurt a lot more this time when they put the dye in - and I about went through the roof!
Got the reading 'sort of' back tonight
The assistant read it and said it was a deep bone bruise and it should heel to 100% over time
Not sure how long that is just yet
I find out the final reading tomorrow but it should be okay
The bruise is in the same place where I broke it in January
Sucks!!
I am now going to go into rehab and I think I am staying here to do it
and I just hope it doesn't take too long
Also there are two more outfielders coming tomorrow
I have to talk to Brian Graham in the next few days about what they want me to do
I honestly am not sure about my playing time when I do come back
but we'll cross the bridge when we come to it
Just an update and I will be back online tomorrow

A note from Brett on Thursday 28th June 2007
No news yet - and I am going to take that as good news!!
The doctor didn't call or come bye yesterday so I will say that makes me feel a little better!!
Hope to hear officially today and I will email or call then

A note from Brett on Saturday 7th July 2007
With the hand, I have a doctor's appointment the first day after the All Star Game break
which is 10th and 11th July
I might get a pain killing injection if I need it - but it does feel a lot better
I have been doing a small range of motion exercises and it's improving
So hopefully after five more days I may even get to start swinging!!
I want to be ready and then have six weeks to finish the season
That is my ideal situation

A note from Brett on Thursday 12th July 2007
There isn't any really bad news - more so just news - not good or bad
The first MRI I had two weeks ago was done incorrectly, so I found out today
What they did see on the first one was two bone bruises but no definitive answer on the ligaments
So I am now having what's called a three injection arthrogram
They put dye in three different areas to see if there are any leaks
Had the first one today and I then have two more Monday
Then an appointment after them on Monday with the hand specialist
Hope it's good news!
As for now, there is no chance of playing til at least the first on the month in my mind
And with our lineup how it is right now, I don't know if I will play when healthy anyway
Not what I wanted to hear, but there isn't much I can do right now
except push my good news date back to Monday and just hope!

Curve Game Day Show on Sunday 15th July 2007

The audio file opposite/below includes
two segments from the Game Day Show

PART ONE

Manager Tim Leiper discusses Brett's situation
He says he would like to see him back in the
lineup, and that he "feels bad for the guy"
He also mentions his great work as the
First Base Coach during the recent games

PART TWO
During the Curve Injury Report,
the commentator mentions that Brett is
an important part of the Curve lineup,
but there is no timetable for his return

NOTE - Tim Leiper speaks 'a little fast' and is a bit
difficult to understand - the rest of the tape,
including the Injury Report, is very clear

A note from Brett on Wednesday 18th July 2007
Is all good!
Every scan I have had has said that it's all okay and that I am okay to resume activity
I will start small and slow and hope to progress to swinging in about a week or so
The doctor said it is going to hurt - probably a lot - but it's not doing further damage
so try to swing through it
He is going to give me some painkillers and I am going to go from there
If after two to three weeks of trying to play and it's still being sore,
I will go to Pittsburgh to see another hand specialist for a second opinion
But as for today, I am starting to do things!!
About bloody time, huh!!

Game Reports

The Curve rallied to score five runs in the top of the ninth inning
and steal an 11-7 win over the Harrisburg Senators Thursday night

Five run ninth innings lifts Curve to 11-7 victory

Javier Guzman highlighted a five-run, ninth-inning comeback with a go-ahead two-run double as the Curve stole their series opener against the Harrisburg Senators, 11-7, Thursday night at Commerce Bank Park in Harrisburg

After Jason Delaney tied the game at 7-7 with his third hit of the game, Guzman bounced a long fly ball over the right-center field wall to knock in two runs and give Altoona its first lead since the first inning
Jason Bowers capped off the five-run rally with a two-run single

The Curve were aided in the inning by two dropped infield pop ups by the Senators, including one by third baseman Dan Dement on a ball hit by Vic Buttler to open the frame
Butter later came around to score on Delaney's run-scoring single - his 13th hit in 17 at-bats over the past four games

The ninth-inning comeback was just the second game won by the Curve this season when trailing entering the final frame

Brett Campbell (1-4) was charged with a blown save and suffered the loss after allowing all five Altoona tallies

Ronald Belisario (1-0) earned the win after tossing a scoreless seventh inning

One night after posting a season-high 20 hits in a win over Bowie, the Curve offense once again had a productive night, recording 14 hits
Delaney's three hits led all Altoona batters, while Buttler, Steven Pearce and Andrew McCutchen each posted two safeties
McCutchen blasted a second-inning solo home run - his sixth longball of the season

Pearce's two-hit effort extended his on-base streak to 30 straight games - just three games shy of matching Ronny Paulino's club-record 33-game streak from the 2004 season

Bowers also extended his current team-high hitting streak to 11 games in the ninth inning

The Curve and Senators will play the second game of their four-game series Friday evening at Commerce Bank Park
Altoona left-hander Josh Shortslef (2-9, 4.24), who worked only one inning because of a power outage delay Tuesday against Bowie, will come back and make the start against Harrisburg southpaw Mike Hinckley (8-8, 5.44) in the 6.35pm contest

Harrisburg's Steve Mortimer dives back into first base as Altoona's Steve Pearce watches a wild throw

Miscues help out Curve

The Eastern League’s worst team embarrassed itself in the ninth inning by dropping two infield popups, and the Curve offense cashed in to steal victory from defeat Thursday night
Altoona trailed Harrisburg by one entering the ninth before charging back with five runs
The Senators, who are 31 games under .500, opened the door with the errors, and the Curve made them pay in an 11-7 win at Commerce Bank Park

Vic Buttler led off the ninth with a routine popup to third, but Dan DeMent misplayed it for an error
Neil Walker and Steven Pearce singled to load the bases with no outs against Senators closer Brett Campbell (1-4)
Jason Delaney, who earlier tied a franchise record by getting a hit in his seventh consecutive at-bat, singled to center to score Buttler and tie the game
Two batters later, Javier Guzman drilled a base-loaded double to right that brought home Walker and Pearce for a 9-7 Curve lead
Things went from bad to worse moments later for Harrisburg when shortstop Seth Bynum dropped a routine popup from Dave Parrish

‘‘I feel embarrassed for them’’ Curve radio announcer Jason Dambach said on the air after the Senators’ comedy of errors

Then Jason Bowers delivered a two-run single that provided some insurance and ran his hitting streak to 11 games

It marked only the second time all season the Curve have won when trailing after eight innings

Altoona scored twice in the first, but Luis Munoz gave up four runs in the bottom half of the inning

Every time the Curve offense mounted a charge, their pitching staff faltered and let the Senators reclaim the lead

Andrew McCutchen homered in the second for Altoona

Sheldon Fulse’s solo homer in the sixth gave Harrisburg a 7-6 lead that stood until the ninth

Ronald Belisario (1-0) won in relief for the Curve

Harrisburg's Frank Diaz gets past the glove of Altoona catcher Dave Parrish to score

Senators fall to Altoona 11-7 in ugly game
Sens give up five in ninth

On Thursday night, the Altoona Curve took advantage of a couple errors in the top of the ninth to score five runs enroute to an 11-7 win over the Senators

The crowd of 2,997 watched the Senators take the lead on three different occasions, only to blow a save for the third straight game

For the seventh night in a row, the Senators scored at least six runs with Dan Dement leading the way driving in two with three hits in four trips to the plate

Sheldon Fulse hit his third home run of the season for the Sens to give them the lead in the bottom of the sixth

All seven runs the Senators scored on Thursday were with two-outs, which continues their recent surge of hitting in the clutch

Harrisburg scored four runs in the bottom of the first to overcome a 2-0 lead by Altoona

But the Senators gave up big ninth inning runs for the third game in a row
Over the past three games, the Sens have given up a total of eleven runs

Game two of the series is Friday night with LH Mike Hinckley against LH Josh Shortslef for Altoona

With the 2,997 entering Commerce Bank Park, the Senators are now 21,099 fans away from drawing their five millionth fan
