The Curve committed three errors that aided
a five-run Bowie first inning and Altoona lost its fourth straight
game, 8-5, Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie,
MD
Shortstop Brandon Chaves was charged with two miscues in the frame,
including an error on a grounder off the bat off Baysox' leadoff
man Ruddy Yan
Yan later scored on the inning's key hit, a two-run single by
Oscar Salazar
Second baseman Javier Guzman, who was appearing in his first game
for the Curve since April 17th after being activated off the Disabled
List earlier day, also committed a miscue which led to one of
the five Bowie runs
Starter Justin Vaclavik faced only two batters in the first inning
and had to leave the game with a hyperextended left knee
Both runners reached base and scored in the frame, thus tagging
the loss on Vaclavik (2-6)
Jason Roach entered the game in the first inning and pitched through
the third
The right-hander was charged with five runs - three earned - on
four hits
Trailing 7-1 after two innings, the Curve scored single tallies
in the fourth and fifth innings courtesy of Jason Delaney
Delaney, who was playing in his 11th game since being added to
the Curve roster from Class-A Lynchburg, hit a solo home run in
the fourth and knocked in Jason Bowers with a double in the fifth
Guzman connected for a two-run home run in the ninth inning to
close out the scoring in the loss
Beau Hale (6-3) won for the third time this season against Altoona,
allowing three runs on five hits in five innings
With the loss, the Curve (42-43) fell below the .500 mark and
dropped behind the Baysox (44-44) into fifth place in the E.L.
South
Altoona entered Saturday's game coming off a three-game series
sweep at the hands of Northern Division-leading Trenton
The Curve and Baysox will play the middle game of their three-game,
pre-All-Star Break series Sunday night at 6.05pm
Dewon Brazelton (1-1, 2.84) will take the mound for Altoona against
Bowie lefty Oscar Alvarez (6-2, 4.91)
The Curve got off to a painful start, then
booted away their chances as they lost their fourth consecutive
game Saturday night
Altoona starting pitcher Justin Vaclavik suffered a knee injury
two batters into his night and had to leave
The Curve defense then fell apart with three first-inning errors
that led to five Bowie runs
The Baysox held on for an 8-5 win at Prince Georges Stadium,
dropping the Curve back below .500 and to fifth place in the six-team
Southern Division
Altoona scored in its half of the first inning as Jason Bowers
came home on a sacrifice fly by Andrew McCutchen
The Curve then watched everything fall apart during Bowies
first at-bat

Seconds later, Vaclavik suffered a hyperextended left knee trying
to field a bunt up the third base line
Vaclavik, a reliever making a spot start, walked off the field
on his own power but did have a limp
The inning turned from bad to worse after that
Jason Roach came in and walked his first batter to load the bases
before Oscar Salazar singled to left to score two runs
Second baseman Javier Guzman, playing his first game with the
Curve in two months after a knee injury, committed an error that
let a run score
Chaves later booted another ball in the inning that allowed Bowies
fifth run to cross
The Baysox added two more runs in the second inning and one in
the eighth
Jason Delaney hit his first Double-A home run in the fourth for
the Curve, and Guzman drilled a two-run blast in the ninth
Vaclavik (2-6) took the tough-luck loss, while Bowie starter Beau
Hale (6-3) gave up three runs in five innings for the win
The Baysox welcomed the Altoona Curve to Prince
Georges Stadium on Saturday for game one of a three game
series
The Baysox in Curve entered tonights contest neck and neck
in the Eastern League Southern Division Standings for 4th place,
with Altoona just 0.5 games ahead of the Baysox
Beau Hale made his second start since coming off of the disabled
list on Monday July 2nd
The Curve would get on the scoreboard first in the top of the
first inning
Hale gave up two hits and a walk in the inning and Andrew McCutchen
drove in Altoonas first run on a sacrifice fly, scoring
Jason Bowers from third for a 1-0 Curve lead
The Baysox though, would come into the bottom of the first and
unload for five first inning runs, highlighted by a Oscar Salazar
bloop single to left center that scored Ruddy Yan and Paco Figueroa
for a 2-1 Baysox lead
Morgan Clendenin hit a sacrifice fly to left, and Val Majewski
came across to score for a 3-1 Baysox lead
Two Altoona errors accounted for the fourth and fifth runs, with
Oscar Salazar and Matt Cepicky scoring on two different plays
Curve starter Justin Vaclavik came out of the game after injuring
his ankle in the just the second at bat of the inning and was
replaced by Jason Roach
The Baysox would stretch their lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the
second inning
Clendenin came through with a double to right center that scored
Paco Figueroa and Val Majewski, making it 7-1 Baysox
Altoona would score a run in both the fourth and fifth innings,
cutting the Baysox lead to, 7-3
The Baysox would push their lead to five runs in the bottom of
the eighth inning, when Ruddy Yan hit a sacrifice fly to center,
scoring Blake Davis from third, putting the Baysox ahead, 8-3
Sendy Rleal would come in to finish the game out in the ninth
inning, but got off to bit of a rough start in the inning
Rleal would lead off the inning issuing a walk to Alex Fernandez
Rleal would then give up a two-run first pitch homer to Javier
Guzman, putting the Curve within three runs at, 8-5
Rleal would then settle down and retire Brandon Chaves on strikes
David Parish would then fly out for the second out and Rleal would
end the game striking out Jason Bowers looking, securing the win
for the Baysox, 8-5
Beau Hale picked up the win for the Baysox going 5.0 innings,
giving up five hits and three runs
The win runs Hales record to (6-3) on the year
Curve starter Justin Vaclavik took the loss for Altoona dropping
to (2-6) on the year, as he exited the game with no outs in the
first inning
RHP Danys Baez pitched the sixth inning for the Baysox on a rehab
assignment from Baltimore
Baez recorded one strikeout in the inning while giving up no hits
The win puts the Baysox in a tie for third place with Reading
at 44-44
The Baysox take on Altoona in game two of the three game series,
Sunday at 6.05pm
The Baysox will send LHP Oscar Alvarez (6-2, 4.91) to the mound
Alvarez will square off against RHP Dewon Brazelton (1-1, 2.84)
for the Curve
