Game Reports
Game One
Nate Robertson, making a Major Leage rehab start for Erie, no-hit
the Curve for six innings as the SeaWolves routed Altoona, 12-3,
in game one of an afternoon doubleheader
Robertson appeared to be fully recovered from a tired shoulder
that had landed him on the Tiger's Disabled List
Robertson (1-0) walked one and struck out six to earn the win
for Erie
Robertson left due to a pitch count after the sixth, and releiver
Danny Zell attempted to complete the no-hitter
Zell recorded the first two outs of the inning and was one out
away from finishing the third no-hitter thrown against the Curve
in their history, before Steven Pearce broke up the bid with a
double to the left field corner
That double opened the door for Altoona to break up the shutout
bid as well, which they did as Neil Walker singled in Pearce
Adam Boeve followed with his 10th home run of the season to cap
the scoring at 12-3
Curve starter Kip Bouknight was hit hard in his attempt at tying
for the league lead in wins
The right-hander was touched up for two runs in the bottom of
the first inning as Erie built a 2-0 lead
Boukknight (7-3), who took the loss for the Curve, was chased
from the ballgame in the third
Pedro Cotto singled to start the inning
Clete Thomas then followed with a single to put runners at the
corners with nobody out
Andres Torres singled to score Cotto and Mike Holliman followed
with a run-scoring double to make it 4-0
Matt Joyce singled to score Torres and the lead was five
Erick Almonte followed with an RBI single and Bouknight was removed
from the ballgame in favor of Alay Soler
Soler recorded the first two outs of the inning before permitting
a single to Steve Torrealba which scored Joyce to cap the rally
and give the SeaWolves a 7-0 advantage
Soler ran into problems of his own in the fifth inning, allowing
five runs to Erie to run the SeaWolves lead to 12-0
Two of those runs were unearned due to a fielding error charged
to Curve shortstop Brandon Chaves
All but one member of Erie's starting lineup, Kody Kirkland, scored
a run in the SeaWolves win
Had the Curve been unable to break up the ho-hit bid, it would
have been the third time the team had been no-hit in franchise
history
The Bowie Baysox turned in both no-hitters against the Curve
Both were staff efforts, the first in 2000 and the latest in 2004
Game Two
Eastern League wins leader Dallas Trahern nearly replicated Robertson's
game one feat, as the SeaWolves cruised behind their ace to a
2-1 win
Trahern (9-3) went the distance for the win, allowing just five
hits and never facing adversity until the seventh inning
The Curve totaled just two hits against Trahern through six innings
as they fell behind 2-0
Andrew McCutchen attempted to spark the Curve offense with a one-out
single in the seventh
McCutchen scored a batter later when Jason Bowers doubled to center
field
Brandon Chaves followed with a single, but Bowers was cut down
at the plate by Matt Joyce to end the ballgame
Justin Vaclavik made the start and held the SeaWolves scoreless
through the first two innings
Erie got to the right-hander in the third as Clete Thomas led
off the inning with a double
Thomas scored the game's first run as Mike Holliman doubled a
batter later
Vaclavik walked Jeff Larish and was removed from the game in favor
of Wardell Starling
Starling permitted the eventual winning run in the fourth
Nick McIntyre led off the inning with a single and stole second
base
He scored from there on a Thomas single to put the SeaWolves in
front, 2-0
Vaclavik (2-5) took the loss in his first start of the season
The Curve continue their road trip on Friday against the Phillies
in Reading
Game one is scheduled for a 7.05pm start

over the Altoona Curve 12-3 in game one of Thursdays doubleheader
at Jerry Uht Park
The SeaWolves got on the board in the bottom of the first inning
Andres Torres drew a one-out walk and he scored on a Mike Hollimon
triple for a 1-0 lead
The triple for Hollimon was his fifth of the season and the 24th
three-bagger for Erie
Hollimon would then score on a Matt Joyce ground out for a 2-0
Wolves advantage
Erie got back at it in the bottom of the third inning
Pedro Cotto led off the inning with a single, the first of six
straight hits in the inning for the Wolves
Clete Thomas followed with a base knock and Torres singled home
Cotto for a 3-0 lead
Hollimon then connected on his second extra-base hit of the game,
a run scoring double for a 4-0 Erie advantage
Matt Joyce and Erick Almonte each connected on run scoring singles
for a 6-0 lead
Later in the inning, Steve Torrealba blooped a single to center,
scoring Joyce putting Erie up 7-0
Already with a commanding seven-run lead, the SeaWolves would
add five more to blow the game open in the bottom of the fifth
Almonte led off by drawing a walk and Jackson Melian singled to
extend his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games to put a pair
on with no outs
After a Kody Kirkland strikeout, Torrealba singled to load the
bases for Cotto
Cotto came through with his second hit of the game, a two-run
double, putting the Wolves up 9-0
Thomas followed by grounding to short, on the play, Torrealba
scored from third and an error was charge to Brandon Chaves at
short, Thomas would reach safely and Erie went up 10-0
Torres followed by drawing a walk to load the bases and Hollimon
drew a bases loaded walk to put Erie up 11-0
Erie would score its final run with Joyce at the plate as Altoona
balked home a run for a 12-0 score
The SeaWolves took the 12-0 lead and a no-hitter into the seventh
inning
Danny Zell came on in relief and retired the first two batters
of the inning
Cotto ended the sixth inning with an amazing diving catch in leftfield
and Matt Joyce did the same in right field on a tailing liner
for the first out of the seventh
Zell then got Brett
Roneberg to ground right back to the mound for the second out
Steven Pearce broke up the no-no with two outs in the seventh
on a double to left
Altoona would go on to plate three runs, including an Adam Boeve
two-run home run making it 12-3
Erie would go on to win by that score
Nate Robertson (1-0) went six no-hit innings for Erie on a rehab
assignment
Robertson shut down Altoona facing one over the minimum through
six
He walked one and struck out six
It came down to the final out of the game once
again, but the Wolves prevailed in game two of the doubleheader
on Thursday afternoon, 2-1 over the Altoona Curve
Erie took three of four against Altoona and the team has now won
three straight ballgames
The SeaWolves broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third
inning against Altoona starter Justin Vaclavik
Clete Thomas led off the inning with a double and with one out,
he was doubled home by Mike Hollimon for a 1-0 SeaWolves lead
The double for Hollimon was his third extra-base hit of the two
games on the day
The Wolves added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning
Nick McIntyre roped a single to right field leading off the inning
McIntyre then stole second for his first stolen base of the season
On the play, Dave Parishs throw went into centerfield and
the error got McIntyre to third
McIntyre would score on a one-out single by Thomas for a 2-0 lead
Erie took a 2-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning
With one out, Andrew McCutchen singled and with two outs he was
doubled home by Jason Bowers making it 2-1 Erie
Brandon Chaves then came to the plate with the tying run in scoring
position
Chaves singled to left field and Bowers attempted to score from
second but was cut down on a perfect throw from Matt Joyce in
right field to the catch Joel Roa, who tagged Bowers for the final
out of the game
Dallas Trahern improved to 9-3 on the season with his second complete
game
He went seven innings allowing a run on five hits; he walked three
and struck out four
Both of Traherns complete games this season have come against
Altoona
The Curve faced a major leaguer making a rehab
start, then took on the Eastern Leagues wins leader in Thursdays
doubleheader
Neither result was favorable
Nate Robertson and Erie were one out away from no-hitting the
Curve in the first game as the SeaWolves routed Altoona, 12-3,
at Jerry Uht Park
The Curve avoided infamy when Steven Pearce doubled off reliever
Danny Zell in the seventh inning
Dallas Trahern then shut down Altoonas offense in the second
game as Erie completed the sweep with a 2-1 win
Brandon Chaves came through with a single that could have tied
the game in the top of the seventh, but right fielder Matt Joyces
throw cut down Jason Bowers at the plate to end the game
Robertson, making a rehab start because of a tired arm, reached
his pitch count of 75
Erie called on Zell, who retired Andrew McCutchen and Brett Roneberg
before allowing Pearces hit
Neil Walker then put Altoona on the board with an RBI single,
and Adam Boeve followed with a two-run homer to make it 12-3
Trahern (9-3) limited the Curves offense to one hit over
five innings
He stranded runners on second and third in the second and fifth
innings
Curve game one starter Kip Bouknight had his worst start of the
year
The SeaWolves shelled him for seven runs in just two innings
Bouknight (7-3) left in the third inning after failing to retire
the six batters he faced
Erie had a pair of five-run innings in the first game, one in
the second off Bouknight and one in the fifth off Alay Soler
Robertson (1-0) benefited from all the offense
The SeaWolves scored their game two runs on Michael Hollimons
third-inning double and Clete Thomas fourth-inning single
Bowers double cut the deficit to 2-1 in the seventh before
Joyces heroics
Justin Vaclavik (2-5) made his first career start
