Game Reports
The Harrisburg Senators used an eight-run fifth
inning to pound the Curve, 12-4, in the finale of a three-game
series Sunday afternoon at Commerce Bank Park in Harrisburg
With the loss, the Curve (29-30) finished their six-game road
trip to New Britain and Harrisburg with a 3-3 record, winning
two of three from the Rock Cats to open the trip and losing two
of three from the last-place Senators (22-40)
Curve starter Luis Munoz was knocked out of the game in the third
inning after allowing the first four of Harrisburg's 12 runs on
the afternoon
The right-hander, who entered his start with an opportunity to
become just the third Eastern League pitcher to reach seven wins,
gave way to Wardell Starling with two outs in the third inning,
trailing 4-1
Munoz was the eventual losing pitcher for Altoona, dropping his
record to 6-3 on the season
Starling, making just his second career relief appearance, retired
the final out of the third and recorded a scoreless fourth before
being tagged for three of Harrisburg's eight fifth-inning runs
Justin Vaclavik came into the game in the fifth and was roughed
up for five runs while retiring just one batter
The eight-run frame, which gave the Senators a 12-1 advantage,
equaled the largest inning by an opponent this season
Mike O'Connor, on the Washington Nationals' Disabled List all
season because of an elbow injury, made the start for Harrisburg
on a major league injury rehabilitation assignment and worked
three innings as scheduled
O'Connor, who made 21 appearances for Washington during his rookie
season in 2006, allowed the first run of the game on a second-inning
solo home run by Neil Walker
Walker, who now leads Curve hitters with 10 home runs, posted
two hits in the contest and is batting .474 (18-for-38) over his
last 11 games
John Lannan, Sunday's originally scheduled starter who was pushed
to the bullpen to make room for O'Connor's start, picked up the
game in the fourth inning and cruised to his third win of the
season
Lannan (3-2), who went 6-0 with Class-A Potomac to open the season,
worked five innings and allowed three runs - two earned - on six
hits
Alex Fernandez provided the Curve's only other offensive highlight
in the game, belting a two-run home run in the eighth inning off
Lannan to close the scoring in the game
The longball was Fernandez's second of the season
Altoona will enjoy an off day on Monday before returning to action
at Blair County Ballpark Tuesday night against New Britain
Tuesday's contest will open a six-game Curve homestand, which
will feature three-game sets against the Rock Cats and Connecticut
Defenders
Yoslan Herrera (0-4, 6.47) will get the start in Tuesday's series
opener against New Britain right-hander Tristan Crawford (6-3,
3.59)
First pitch is set for 7.05pm

the Nationals in Harrisburg and pitched well in his three inning
stint

win

Bank Park on Sunday
The Senators (22-40) broke the game open with eight runs in the
fifth inning
Blanco led off with a single to right field, moved to third on
Steve Mortimer's double and scored on Guerrero's sacrifice fly

on Mortimer's single to left
Guerrero belted a two-run homer, his seventh, in the second
Mortimer finished up 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Frank Diaz
chipped in two hits and two RBIs

the Senators, allowing one run on two hits over three innings

last season

a solo homer for the Curve (29-30)

at Commerce Bank Park

Altoona starter Luis Munoz got off to a good start as he struck
out two in the first inning
It was all downhill after that
Harrisburgs Cristian Guerrero put his team up, 2-1, on a
two-run homer in the second inning
The Senators added two more runs in the third off Munoz (6-3),
who pitched 2-2/3 innings
