Game Reports
Kip Bouknight tossed six solid
innings against his former team to improve to 4-0 on the season
and Adam Boeve and Steven Pearce each hit home runs as the Curve
trounced the Harrisburg Senators, 8-2, Saturday night at Commerce
Bank Park in Harrisburg
Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, the two clubs played just
one game after waiting out a 3 hour, 14 minute rain delay
Instead, the twinbill will take place Sunday afternoon starting
at 12.05pm
Bouknight (4-0), who made 41 appearances for the Senators over
the previous two seasons before signing with Pittsburgh as a minor
league free agent, cruised to the win after allowing just one
run and four hits over six innings
The Curve offense provided the 28-year old right-hander with plenty
of early run support, plating four runs in both the second and
fourth innings
In the second, catcher Brian Peterson started the Curve attack
with a two-run double to right-center to give Altoona a 2-0 lead
Brandon Chaves and Adam Boeve each added RBI's in the frame to
extend the lead to 4-0
Harrisburg got one run back in the bottom of the second, but the
Curve put the game away in the fourth when, after two outs, Boeve
smacked a solo home run - his third longball in four games - to
make the score 5-1
After Randy Ruiz walked and Neil Walker singled, Pearce connected
for a long three-run homer to left to extend the lead to 8-1
Pearce, who belted 11 home runs in 19 games at Lynchburg before
being called up to Altoona on May 1, hit his second in a Curve
uniform and 13th overall to tie for the most among all minor league
hitters
All runs scored by Altoona came against Harrisburg lefty Mike
Hinckley (4-3), who was tagged with the loss
Hinckley was charged with eight runs - seven earned - on nine
hits over just four innings
Offensively, Altoona's 11 hits came from nine different hitters,
with Pearce and Peterson collecting the only two-hit efforts
With the win, the Curve (16-15) move back above the .500 mark
and to within 1-1/2 games of the lead in the E.L. South
Harrisburg (8-25) lost for the eighth time in nine games and continues
to have the worst record in the league
Sunday's 12.05pm doubleheader will feature starts from Curve righty
Luis Munoz (4-0, 2.08) in game one and Josh Shortslef (0-3, 3.97)
in the nightcap
Harrisburg will counter with a pair of right-handers - Jim Magrane
(0-2, 7.79) and T.J. Nall (0-7, 5.59)
Steven Pearce hit his 13th
home run and Kip Bouknight pitched six solid innings as Altoona
beat visiting Harrisburg, 8-2, on Saturday
Pearce's fourth-inning homer tied Lake County's Jared Goedert
for the Minor League lead and increased the Curve's lead to 8-1
Pearce, who had 11 home runs with Class A Advanced Lynchburg and
two with his current club, also doubled as he went 2-for-5 with
three RBIs and two runs scored
Bouknight (4-0) gave up a run on four hits and a walk while striking
out a season-high five batters to win his third consecutive start
The 28-year-old right-hander retired seven of the last eight batters
he faced
Rogearvin Bernadina and Frank Diaz each went 2-for-4 with a double
for the Senators (8-25), who suffered their eighth loss in 10
games
Cristian Guerrero led off the eighth with a solo home run, his
first
Harrisburg starter Michael Hinckley (4-3) surrendered eight runs
- seven earned - on nine hits and four walks in four innings
Adam Boeve hit a solo homer and drove in two RBIs for Altoona
(16-15)
The Senators and Altoona Curve
were scheduled to play two games on Saturday night, but after
a 3:14 rain delay, the teams played just a single nine-inning
game with Altoona winning 8-2
The Curve scored four runs in the second and four runs in the
fourth for the win
Adam Boeve hit a solo home run for the Curve and Steven Pearce
capped off their scoring with a three-run home run in the fourth
inning
The Senators Cristian Guerrero hit his first home run of the year
in the game
Relievers Josh Hall and Dan Foli combined to strike out ten batters
in the final six innings of the game
The teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12.05pm
The Senators will send Jim Magrane to the mound in game one and
in game two, TJ Nall will make his eighth start of the season
The Curve endured soggy conditions,
then socked it to Harrisburg on Saturday night
The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader at 5.05pm but
had to sit around for 3 hours, 14 minutes because of rain
Altoonas offense lit up the Senators pitching once
things finally got started and coasted to an 8-2 win at Commerce
Bank Park
The second game of the doubleheader was postponed, and the teams
will try to play two games today starting at 12.05pm
The Curve scored four runs in the second inning and muscled up
with four more runs in the fourth to break things open
Adam Boeve started the big fourth inning with a solo homer, his
third in four games, and Steven Pearce smacked a three-run shot
later in the inning for an 8-1 lead
Pearce has two homers with the Curve and 13 on the season, moving
back into a tie for tops in the minor leagues
The offensive outburst provided plenty of support for Curve starter
Kip Bouknight, who pitched for Harrisburg the past two seasons
and enjoyed a strong return to City Island
Bouknight (4-0) gave up just one run on four hits with five strikeouts
and one walk over six innings
Brian Peterson, who recently joined the Curve as a backup catcher,
ignited the four-run second inning with a two-run double
Brandon Chaves also had an RBI single in the frame
Eight of the nine Curve starters had a hit - including Bouknight
- with Andrew McCutchen the lone exception
Randy Ruiz, bumped from first base when Pearce joined the team,
played left field for the first time this season
Harrisburg starter Mike Hinckley (4-3) gave up eight runs - seven
earned - over four innings for the loss
