Game two rally helps Curve earn split

The Curve rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score seven unanswered runs and claim a 7-5 victory over the Bowie Baysox in the nightcap of a doubleheader Tuesday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, MD

Bowie won the earlier game, 1-0, as three pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout

The twinbill was forced after Monday's scheduled game between the two clubs was postponed because of heavy winds and rain

Trailing 4-0 and without any baserunners into the fifth inning, the Curve erupted to score four times in the fifth, highlighted by a Brandon Chaves two-run single that evened the score at 4-4

In the sixth against Bowie reliever Fredy Deza (0-1), Altoona added three more runs to take control of the game
Javier Guzman singled home pinch-runner Andrew McCutchen with the go-ahead tally while Vic Buttler and Chaves also added to the lead with RBI's in the frame

Romulo Sanchez (1-0) was the beneficiary of the Curve outburst and earned the win after tossing one scoreless inning in relief of starter Yoslan Herrera, who allowed four runs and seven hits over four innings in his second start of the season

Matt Peterson relieved Justin Vaclavik with two outs and the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning and notched the final out of the game to pick up his first career save

In the first game, Curve starter Wardell Starling pitched six strong innings, but was outdueled by Baysox' starter Beau Hale and two relievers in a 1-0 loss
Starling (0-2), who allowed six runs in just two innings of work in his first start of the season at Akron last Tuesday, gave up just one run - a sacrifice fly off the bat of Matt Cepicky - but that run turned out to be the difference in a Bowie win

Hale (1-1) worked 5-1/3 shutout innings and relievers Jim Miller and James Hoey completed the three-hit shutout by working the final 1-2/3 frames

Randy Ruiz, Alex Fernandez and Dave Parrish claimed Altoona's only three hits - all singles

Altoona (3-5) will try to earn its first series victory of the 2007 season Wednesday night in the rubber match of the three-game series at Prince George's Stadium
Curve right-hander Kip Bouknight (0-0, 6.00) will oppose Baysox' lefty Craig Anderson (1-0, 1.80) in the 7.05pm contest

He missed the 2003-04 seasons following shoulder surgeries
