Timber Document Trays

A note from Geoff on Tuesday 1st August 2006

Sharon has two of these timber trays

They were at the Cairns Post Office, and no-one was using them

She asked - and they were given to her
and look much better than the plastic trays we used to have

One is kept in the alcove near the front door for car keys, etc
and she uses the other one in her "office" near her computer and phone

They each measure 15 inches x 11 inches x 4.75 inches (380mm x 280mm x 145mm)

We are not sure of their age - but they "look" very old!!!

------The "Dovetail Joins" on Sharon's trays

As can be seen in the photo below, one is joined at the back
and the other is joined at the side

Fabulous old/antique wooden file compartment for a desk
The joins are dovetailed
I do not know what type of timber
The tray is stamped on the end with Fed#1474
There is a small piece of wood missing from one side
and from this you can see that it is solid and not veneer
The size is 14cm by 25cm by 39cm
It is stained but I expect that is from the use over the years
It's a bit old and and a bit worn but still a very functional item
Sold during September 2008
