Re Ebay Item 6583110351
Salter Family Scale
Hi
I recently purchased the above item, and as it was a Christmas present for my Wife, it was put under the tree and opened yesterday!!!
Sharon loves it!!!
BUT there is a bit of a problem

I have attached one of the photos from your original auction details
It shows the pointer in a certain position, and it was in this same position when it was unwrapped
Sharon went to set it up, and turned the knob on the back to set this pointer to zero
However, it doesn't move that far!!!
She has moved the knob to it's maximum point both ways, but it will not reach the zero position
We have left the tray on!!!
We have taken the tray off!!!
But nothing helps!!!
Naturally this is disappointing
I bought this because of your great photos, and also because of the details you included in the auction - such as:-
"and you would be pleased to have this one in your kitchen"
"it is in excellent condition"
"you will really be happy with this buy!!!"

And I didn't mind paying the "top-dollar" price of $152.50 because it looks fabulous!!!
We don't want to go "belting it around with a hammer"!!! - so I am writing to ask if you have any ideas on how to get the counter to move to the zero position???
We are hoping that it is something simple that we haven't noticed
Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you
Regards
Geoff

......and the reply

Hi Geoff
It is a bit hard for me to direct you without it in front of me
I know that it was working
All I can suggest is to persevere and try what you can
Fiddle a bit - I'm sure you will get it
Julie

Another email from Geoff to the Seller on Saturday 31st December 2005

Attached to this email
(1) Seller's photo from auction
(2) Invoice for repairs
(3) Photo of the scales after repairs
Hi
and I found your reply "just a bit unbelievable"!!!
We spend over $150.00 on these scales - and you tell us to "fiddle" with them!!!

Your Photo
It shows the scales exactly as we received them
The pointer is not even close to the "0" - with or without the tray in place
Naturally we turned the adjuster but the pointer still would not return to the top
You wrote above that the scales were working - I say that is not true

Invoice for Repairs
No, we didn't "fiddle" with them!!!
We took them to a professional scale repairers, and he made the adjustments
He also stated that the is no way that the scales would go to the "0" position without the repairs he made!!!
He charged us $22.00

Photo after Repairs
This shows the pointer right where it should be!!!
Your Auction Details
As I have mentioned in a past email, I bought these scales because of the details you included in the auction - such as
"and you would be pleased to have this one in your kitchen"
"it is in excellent condition"
"you will really be happy with this buy!!!"
The Solution
(#1) We expect a refund for the repairs that were made
This is self-explanatory, as no mention was made of the pointer not registering correctly
(#2) Because of this and also because of your item description, the final auction price was inflated
People, including myself, were bidding on an item that was described as being in "excellent condition" when it was not
Some sort of discount must be offerred
Ebay Feedback
Many people go away at this time of the year, so I am not sure of when you will read this email
So I am going to delay submitting my feedback
I will add it on Wednesday evening, 4th January 2006
At this stage it will be "very negative" - unless I receive a sensible reply to this note
Ebay Disputes
Submit this complaint???
No, I can't be bothered
I realise that Ebay is a Buyer Beware Auction Site
However, I feel that sellers should be completely honest when adding items - in this case, I may have lost!!!
Well, I will now leave it up to you
Regards
Geoff

......and the reply

I have no problem in refunding the $22.00 even though I'm sure they were fine
I am in Hong Kong until the 16th January
Send me your bank details and I will 'direct deposit' after then
Julie

......and a note from Geoff to the Seller

Hi again
And that is fine
