DOGS LOSE LONGEST WINNING STREAK IN 3 YEARS
Portland Falls 4-1 to Division Champion Fisher Cats

Eastern League Pitcher of the Year Gustavo Chacin fired five innings of one-run ball for his professional baseball-leading 18th win of the season as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats snapped the Portland Sea Dogs winning streak at six with a 4-1 win.

Kenny Perez singled twice and drove in the only Portland run while Hanley Ramirez doubled to extend a hitting streak to 11.

Former Sea Dog John Hattig hit a home run in the sixth inning off reliever Bryan Hebson to account for the final score.

Ryan Cameron (4-6) allowed only one earned run in 5.1 innings, but committed a throwing error that led to two unearned runs in the opening inning.

Portland's six game winning streak was the franchise's longest in three seasons.

Prior to the game, Jeff Bailey was honored as the Allied Big Dog of the Season for earning the most Big Dog of the Game awards during Sea Dogs radio broadcasts this season.

Fisher Cats pull out win in Portland

Gustavo Chacin struck out six and gave up one run in five innings to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 4-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday night in the Eastern League.

Chacin (16-2) allowed five hits and walked three in helping New Hampshire (82-56) snap a six-game winning streak by Portland (68-71).

The Fisher Cats scored two runs in the first inning on a throwing error and a single, but the Sea Dogs scored a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Kenny Perez.

Former Sea Dog John Hattig hit a two-run homer for the Fisher Cats in the sixth inning.

Portland pitcher Ryan Cameron (4-6) pitched 5-1/3 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Fisher Cats end Sea Dogs' streak

When a team is winning a lot, the players find ways to victory.
They take advantage of mistakes, get the clutch hits and stifle the other guys' rallies.
Ask the Portland Sea Dogs.
They just enjoyed a six-game winning streak on the road.
Ask the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
They stopped Portland's streak, with a 4-1 victory over the Sea Dogs Friday night, before 5,935 at Hadlock Field.

Portland starter Ryan Cameron (4-6) made a throwing error in the first inning, which led to two runs.

Reliever Bryan Hebson gave up a two-run homer to former Sea Dogs third-baseman John Hattig in the sixth inning.

Offensively, Portland stranded 10 runners.

The Sea Dogs tired near the end, a result of a night-long bus trip from Binghamton, N.Y.

"It looked like it caught up to us in the sixth," Portland Manager Ron Johnson said.
"We got off the bus at 7 a.m.
I know how I felt.
The guys gave a super effort. We were in that game."

The Sea Dogs (68-71) were attempting to win their seventh straight game, a feat not repeated since 2000.

Portland must win their final three games to end with a break-even record.

The Sea Dogs are tied for fourth with Norwich in the Northern Division, a game behind third-place New Britain (which was swept in a doubleheader Friday).

New Hampshire (82-56), meanwhile, is gearing for the Eastern League playoffs, which start Wednesday.

To help New Hampshire, the Fisher Cats received left-hander Gustavo Chacin (16-2) back from Triple-A.
He was recently promoted, but the Blue Jays sent him back for the post-season.
Chacin's only two losses have come to Portland.
But he pitched well enough Friday (five innings, five hits, one run).

New Hampshire took a 2-0 first-inning lead.
With one out and Dominic Rich on second, Aaron Hill grounded to the mound.
Cameron initially was going to throw to first, but saw Rich well off second.
He turned to second, double-clutched and threw off-balance into center field.
Rich scored and Hill went to second.
He eventually scored on a two-out single.

"Whenever we work on that in practice, they always tell you get your feet set, and I didn't do it," Cameron said.

In the bottom of the first, Hanley Ramirez doubled and scored on a Kenny Perez single.
With bases loaded and two outs, Chacin struck out Gary Schneidmiller.

In the bottom of the fifth, Portland had bases loaded and one out, but Sheldon Fulse grounded into a double play.

Cameron walked a batter in the sixth and left with one out.
Hebson came in, and Hattig crushed his first pitch into the trees beyond right field.
Hattig, who was traded to the Blue Jays on July 25, is now batting .481 against the Sea Dogs with four homers and 10 RBI.

In the ninth, Portland put two runners on and the tying run, Mike Lockwood, up to bat with two outs.
He grounded out.

NOTES
Ramirez made a sensational diving catch to his right in the sixth inning, but hurt his left shoulder.
He was taken out as a precaution but is expected back in the lineup today.
Former Red Sox star pitcher Jim Lonborg threw out the first pitch.
