The Sea Dogs were leading 2 runs to 1!!!

BUT the Rock Cats had a runner at first base (the tying run) and the batter in the box (the winning run)

......and it was belted to deep rightfield!!!
Here is the commentators call - "Roneberg is going back, back, back ...... and he is against the wall ...... and he leaps in the air ...... did he make the catch??? ...... HE DID!!! ...... an incredible play by Roneberg!!! ...... Brett, with his back against the fence, leaps in the air at the sixteen-foot high wall and makes a snow-cone grab ...... a sensational play by Brett to end the ballgame"

Rock Cat Jon Pridie struck out 11, but took the loss
in the day game of today's double header
The Rock Cats and Sea Dogs play again at 7:05pm.

CATS' COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN GAME ONE

Catcher Gabby Torres brought the crowd to its feet with a shot to right field with a runner on first and the Rock Cats down by one in the bottom of the ninth, but the ball fell into the glove of the leaping outfielder at the wall, Brett Roneberg, and Portland escaped with a 2-1 win.


The Rock Cats scored its only run on an RBI sacrifice fly by Kevin West in the ninth.

Cats' starter Jon Pridie (3-6) allowed a run in the first and second, but settled down to shutout the Sea Dogs through the next five innings.
He struck out 11 and walked just one.

Victor Moreno fired two shutout innings in relief, but the Cats' bat couldn't produce enough runs.

Eastern League Game Summary - Portland at New Britain

Bo Donaldson pitched four innings of two hit relief to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to a 2-1 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats in Eastern League action Saturday afternoon.

Donaldson improved his record to 2-3.

Portland scored their two runs in the first two innings on a Stefan Bailie RBI single in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Clint Chauncey in the second inning.

After that it was all zeros until the ninth when New Britain put up their lone run of the game on a Kevin West sacrifice fly.

Portland starter Greg Montalbano pitched 3-1/3 innings giving up just three hits and no runs but didn't figure in the decision.

Marc Deschenes got his fourth save of the season giving up an earned run in an inning and 2/3rds pitched.

Jon Pridie was the tough luck loser for New Britain giving up two earned runs over seven innings pitched while striking out 11 batters.
His record dropped to 3-6.

The win improves Portland's record to 54-59.
They are currently in fourth place in the Eastern League's Northern Division.

The loss drops New Britain's record to 52-60.
They are currently in last place in the Eastern League's Northern Division.
