(1) In the top
of the (???) inning, the Curve had a runner at third base with
one down - the next batter hit a deep fly ball to rightfield -
Brett caught it 10/15 feet short of the warning track and made
the throw to home - the commentator said "that was a good
throw ...... no, a great throw!!! ...... by Brett as he almost
got the runner coming in to score ...... Roneberg really surprised
the runner as he was coming in standing up and it was a very close

Eastern League Game Summary - Altoona at
Portland
Sean McGowan and Kenny Perez each drove in three runs to lead
the Portland Sea Dogs past the Altoona Curve, 9-3 in an Eastern
League contest.
The Sea Dogs improved to 41-47 with the win, while the Curve fell
to 53-35.
Despite the loss, Altoona remains in first place in the Southern
Division.
McGowan drove in his first RBI with a ground out in the third
stanza.
Joe Kilburg added a two-run blast in the inning to give the Sea
Dogs a 3-0 advantage.
Leading 3-1 in the third, John Hattig smashed his 12th home run
of the year.
Perez highlighted a four-run eighth inning with a three-run home
run, while McGowan contributed another RBI base knock.
Hattig went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the win.
Ryan Cameron earned the win for the Sea Dogs.
In five innings, he yielded three runs - two earned - on two hits.
Cameron fanned five to even his record at 2-2.
Altoona's Neal McDade (2-1) lasted five innings and surrendered
four earned runs to absorb the loss.
Nate McLouth homered for the Curve in the loss.
DOGS SCORE 8 2-OUT RUNS IN 9-3 WIN OVER ALTOONA
McGowan, Cameron With Big Nights
Ryan Cameron allowed only two hits in five strong innings and
Sean McGowan drove in three runs as the Portland Sea Dogs snapped
a two-game losing streak with a 9-3 win over the Altoona Curve
Saturday night.
The Sea Dogs welcomed a crowd of 6,975 to Hadlock Field for the
300th sellout in franchise history.
Cameron, inserted into the rotation for injured Chris Smith, allowed
only four base runners in five innings for his first win since
May 2.
Eric Glaser tossed three no-hit innings of relief and Ryan Larson
completed the three-hitter with a scoreless ninth inning.
Portland scored eight two-out runs in the win, including a pair
by McGowan - who drove in three runs with a groundout and a pair
of singles.
John Hattig added three hits, two runs and his 12th home run of
the season - a long blast over the Ford Board in right-center
field.
Joe Kilburg homered for his first home run in affiliated baseball
since 1999 and Kenny Perez hit a three-run home run in the eighth
inning to put the game away.
SEA DOGS EVEN SERIES WITH 9-3 WIN OVER CURVE
One night after limiting Portland to just two hits in a 10-inning
victory, the Curve found the roles reversed, managing only three
hits in a 9-3 loss to the Sea Dogs Saturday night at Hadlock Field.
Nate McLouth had two hits, including a fourth-inning solo homer,
and Kevin Nicholson had an RBI single to account for one of his
two RBI, but that's all the offense Altoona could manage in dropping
the second game of the two clubs' four-game set.
The Curve (53-35) failed for the third time in a week to improve
its record to a franchise-high 20 games over the .500 mark.
Portland (41-47) earned its first win over Altoona in six tries
this season.
Neal McDade (2-1) allowed four runs on five hits over five innings
to suffer his first loss of the season.
The right-hander gave up three runs in the bottom of the second,
including a two-run homer off the bat of Joe Kilburg.
John Hattig also touched up McDade for a solo homer in the bottom
of the fourth to five the 'Dogs a 4-1 lead.
The Curve climbed back to within one run at 4-3 in the fifth when
Ray Sadler reached first on a strikeout and then stole both second
and third base before coming home on Nicholson's sacrifice fly
to right.
Sadler later stole his fourth base of the game in the top of the
seventh to establish a new single-game franchise record.
The outfielder accomplished his four stolen base effort despite
not reaching base safely in any of his three plate appearances.
Sadler twice reached on errors in addition to reaching on a third-strike
wild pitch.
Leading 5-3 entering the bottom of the eighth, Portland put the
game out of reach scoring four times against Curve reliever Eddie
Candelario, highlighted by a three-run homer by All-Star shortstop
Kenny Perez.
Ryan Cameron (2-2) went five innings and allowed three runs -
two earned - on just two hits to notch the victory for Portland.
The right-hander did not walk a batter and struck out five.
The Curve and Sea Dogs will continue their four-game series Sunday
afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
In a matchup of Eastern League All-Stars, the Curve will send
right-hander Ian Snell (6-5, 3.41) to the mound against Portland
left-hander Abe Alvarez (8-5, 3.65).
Sea Dogs light up Curve, 9-3
Independence Day was six days earlier, but Joe Kilburg, John Hattig
and Kenny Perez simply hadn't gotten their fair share of fireworks
Saturday night at Hadlock Field.
Kilburg's two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning, Hattig's
solo shot in the third and Perez's three-run drive over the right-field
fence in the eighth ignited the pyrotechnics behind the center-field
fence and provided the bulk of the offense in the Portland Sea
Dogs' 9-3 win over the Altoona Curve.
"Balls do get out of this park fairly easy," Kilburg
said.
"Tonight wasn't one of those nights.
But we got the guys being patient and taking good swings."
Hopefully for Kilburg, Saturday's win, complete with a sellout
crowd of 6,975, fireworks and the Sea Dogs' giveaway of replica
bats, was a good sign.
Kilburg's homer was his first of the season and first with a major-league
affiliated team since July 1, 1999, when he was with Akron.
Kilburg was drafted out of Stanford in 1997 by the Cleveland Indians
and played the past three seasons with Nashua of the independent
Atlantic League (2003) and Yuma of the independent Western League
(2001-02).
"He's driven some out in batting practice," Sea Dogs
Manager Ron Johnson said.
"But I was a little surprised, too. That ball just jumped
off the bat."
Kilburg was aware of the dubious stretch of time, even as he grew
more comfortable with his swing for the past week.
"Unfortunately, it's kind of been in the back of my mind
for a month or so," the second baseman said.
"I knew (home runs) would come when my swing was feeling
better."
Hattig hit his 12th home run of the season and went 3 for 4 for
the Sea Dogs (41-47).
Perez hit his fourth home run of the year, and had gone 0 for
3 Saturday night before driving in Portland's final three runs.
Johnson said his pitching staff was the key.
Ryan Cameron, Eric Glaser and Ryan Larson held the Curve (53-35)
to three hits and combined for nine strikeouts.
Cameron, a spot starter Saturday, earned his second win of the
season, striking out five batters and giving up two hits and three
runs in his first start for the Sea Dogs since May 2.
Cameron was lifted after Altoona cut Portland's 4-2 lead to 4-3
in the top of the fifth as Ray Sadler scored on Kevin Nicholson's
sacrifice fly to right field.
Sadler reached base on a wild pitch on a third strike and stole
two bases.
Glaser (three strikeouts) relieved Cameron (2-2) in the sixth
inning and held the Curve hitless, and Larson (one strikeout)
pitched the ninth.
"It's sticky," Johnson said of his team's one-run lead
entering the sixth inning.
"(Altoona's) leading their division. They've developed a
chemistry and an attitude that they expect to win.
That's where your pitching staff comes in. Glazer, he took total
control of the game."
Sean McGowan's single with two outs in the sixth inning drove
in Jeff Bailey and gave Portland a two-run cushion.
Two innings later, McGowan, who also drove in Portland's first
run on a sacrifice fly in the first, finished a 2 for 4, three-RBI
night with a single that drove
in Brett Roneberg in the eighth.
Perez followed with his homer.
Nate McLouth hit a solo home run and Kevin Nicholson drove in
two runs for the Curve.
Sea Dogs upend Curve
Kenny Perez hit a three-run homer, Joe Kilburg belted a two-run
shot and John Hattig added a solo home run as the Portland Sea
Dogs defeated the Altoona Curve 9-3 Saturday in the Eastern League.
Sean McGowan also had three RBIs for Portland.
Nate McLouth homered, Kevin Nicholson drove in two runs and Ray
Sadler stole four bases and scored twice in Altoona's loss.
Kilburg's homer was the key hit as the Sea Dogs (41-47) went ahead
3-0 in the second inning and never relinquished the lead.
Hattig homered in the third inning and Perez's shot over the right-field
fence drove in three runs in the eighth.
The Curve (53-35) scored solo runs in the third, fourth and fifth
innings.
Portland starting pitcher Ryan Cameron (2-2) struck out five,
walked none and gave up three runs - two earned - on two hits
over five innings.
Altoona starter Neal McDade (2-1) took the loss.
