Heard during the game
(1) When the commentator came to Brett's name as he was giving
out the starting line-ups, he said that "Brett has had
a great month of May with 7 x home runs and 24 x runs-batted-in"
(he also has 6 x doubles for the month)
(2) As Brett was having his first at-bat, the commentator said that "if Brett can get a home run today it will give him eight for the month which will equal the Sea Dogs record"
(3) He also mentioned that "Brett has a Eastern League leading total of twelve "ground-into-double-play" hits and that is five more than any other player in the League"
(4) Just an "interesting"
note
Brett's third at-bat was leading off the sixth innings and he
was the first out
The Sea Dogs then "batted-around-the-order" scoring
four runs with another out
Brett's fourth at-bat was with loaded bases but he hit a ground
ball to the Fisher Cats second-baseman for the third out of the
same innings

Sea Dogs just enjoy their
trip
This new bus stop for the Portland Sea Dogs may prove popular.
Portland completed a four-game sweep of the New Hampshire Fisher
Cats Monday with a 5-3 victory before 2,662 at Gill Stadium.
Jeff Bailey homered twice for four RBI to lead the Sea Dogs, who
were on their first trip to Manchester to play the new team on
the Eastern League block.
It marked Portland's first four-game sweep since 2001, and it
came against the team that had the best ERA in the league.
"I like this place," Portland Manager Ron Johnson said.
"Any time you can come in against the league's top pitching
staff and win four in a row, you just sit back and enjoy it."
With the four-game winning streak, Portland (23-27) no longer
sits alone in last place in the Northern Division.
The Sea Dogs are now tied with New Britain (22-26) nine games
behind first-place Binghamton and only 3 1/2 games behind second-place
New Hampshire (26-23).
Chris Smith (4-2) continued the hot streak for the Sea Dogs' starters,
who are a collective 9-2 with a 2.09 ERA in the last 14 games.
Smith struck out six in five innings, giving him the Eastern League
lead with 61.
He allowed four hits and three walks, pitching out of two jams.
The Fisher Cats loaded the bases in the first but got just one
run.
In the second, a double and single put runners on first and third
with no outs, but Smith then struck out the side.
Smith walked the first two batters of the third, then retired
the final eight batters he faced, including a 4-6-3 double play.
"I just had to bow my neck and get the job done," Smith
said.
Johnson applauded the job.
"You got to look at his composure," Johnson said. "He
didn't break."
Gustavo Chacin (4-1) did not have the same fortune, taking his
first loss of the season.
Bailey hit a solo homer over the left-field wall at the 370-foot
mark in the second.
He gave Portland the lead for good with a towering three-run blast
in the sixth, hitting the scoreboard 30 feet above the left-field
wall.
Bailey went 6 for 15 with three home runs and seven RBI in the
series.
But he said the team's recent success comes from the mound.
"Our pitching has been doing it for us," Bailey said.
Portland outhit New Hampshire 43-23 in the series.
Edgar Martinez singled in Mike O'Keefe (2 for 4) for Portland's
final run.
Bo Donaldson relieved Smith in the sixth and Juan Perez went the
last two innings for the save.
Each allowed one unearned run.
Portland center fielder Eric Johnson made the play of the game,
diving at the last second to catch a fly ball and save two runs
in the sixth.
NOTES
John Hattig went 3 for 5 and has reached base 13 times in his
last 18 plate appearances.
Second baseman Jesus Medrano (shoulder) came off the disabled
list, replacing outfielder Sheldon Fulse (sore hip).
Relief pitcher Colin Young (pulled groin) is scheduled to go on
the disabled list today and will be replaced by Ryan Larsen from
Class A Sarasota.
Shortstop Kenny Perez recovered from a sore hip to play for the
first time in five games. He had a double in four at-bats.
The veteran Portland players praised Gill Stadium as a huge improvement
over New Haven's Yale Field, where the franchise previously played.
"It's 100 times better," Bailey said.
Portland starts a three-game series tonight with Binghamton, the
team that swept the Sea Dogs last week.
Josh Stevens (2-2) will start for Portland.
Fisher Cats swept by Dogs
Portland, behind two mighty swings from Jeff Bailey, completed
a sweep of the Fisher Cats last night.
Bailey belted two homers, including a three-run sixth inning shot,
lifting the Sea Dogs to a 5-3 Eastern League victory before a
Memorial Day gathering of 2,662 fans at Gill Stadium.
New Hampshire (26-23) has now lost a season-high four straight
games.
It marks the first time since July 2001 that the Sea Dogs have
swept a four-game series.
Portland (23-27) has won nine of its last 12 games.
It was a 1-1 game until the sixth, when the Sea Dogs rallied for
four runs against Fisher Cats starter Gustavo Chacin (4-1).
Chacin, who entered the game with a 2.94 ERA, was rolling along
until Sean McGowan and John Hattig reached him for consecutive
one-out singles.
Bailey, who had homered in the second inning, teed off on a 3-1
pitch that saw the ball dent the scoreboard beyond the left-center
field fence.
Bailey, now with seven homers, ended up enjoying his second four-RBI
game of the season, giving him 31 for the year.
He also became the first player to hit two homers in a game against
the Fisher Cats this season.
Chacin yielded an RBI single to Edgar Martinez before departing
the game.
Chacin allowed five earned runs, his personal season high, and
10 hits, another season-high among Fisher Cats starters.
Garnering the mound win for Portland was Chris Smith (4-2), the
Eastern Leagues strikeout leader with 61.
In five innings, Smith threw 92 pitches, allowing four hits and
three walks with six strikeouts.
The only run off him came in the first inning when Aaron Hills
force-out grounder to short scored Danny Solano from third base.
John-Ford Griffin, who set a Fisher Cats franchise record with
four walks last night, scored a sixth-inning run on Matt Logans
single.
The Fisher Cats scored their last run in the ninth when Tyrell
Godwin doubled, stole third and scored on an errant throw.
New Hampshire, which had just one hit over the final seven innings,
continues to struggle at the plate.
The top four hitters - Godwin, Solano, Dominic Rich and Griffin
- were a combined 3-for-13 yesterday and are 10-for-91 through
seven games in this homestand.
