Heard during the game
(1) As Brett came in for his first at-bat, the commentator said
that "Brett is tied for fifth in the Eastern League with
28 x RBI's and also tied for fifth with 7 x home runs"
(2) In the bottom of the second innings, the Rock Cats had a runner
at third base with one down - the next batter hit a fly ball to
medium depth rightfield - Brett made the catch and then "an
absolute picture-perfect one-hop throw to home to gun down the
runner and keep the game scoreless"
The Sea Dogs have been 'struggling' lately, and the commentator
went on to say "that just when you are about to give up
hope a perfect play like this can lift the team"
At the end of the game, the commentator announced that
this was judged "The Weather Vane Seafoods Catch/Play-of-the-Day"
(3) After his hit in his second at bat, the commentator said that
"Roneberg now has a twenty-one game 'on-base-streak' going
back to the 27th April"
(4) The game was scoreless in the bottom of the fifth innings
- the Rock Cats had a runner at first base and the next batter
drove the ball down the line in leftfield - Brett had changed
from right to leftfield, and he took off after the ball and "covered
a lot of ground to make a very nice running catch with his glove
out at full stretch and 'we can hang a star on that play' which
saved an extra-base hit and stopped a possible run from scoring"
(5) After his two-out two-run double in his fourth at-bat, the
commentator said that "Roneberg, who has helped carry
the offense during May, comes through with another big base hit
for the Sea Dogs"
(6) Under Eastern League rules, double-header games are seven
innings instead of nine - coming into the bottom of the seventh
innings the Sea Dogs were leading 4 runs to 1 - the Rock Cats
had runners at first and second base with the tying run at the
plate - the ball was driven deep into the gap at left-centrefield
"and Roneberg tracked it down and made a running catch
as he brushed along the wall and the Sea Dogs win and snap their
six game losing streak. Roneberg has made some outstanding defensive
plays during this game"
Email from Brett
Had an 'ok day'
today.
Love getting those RBI's to stay in the League Leaders.

Eastern League Game Summary
- Portland at New Britain
Brett Roneberg doubled
in two runs during a four-run, sixth-inning, as the Portland Sea
Dogs beat the New Britain Rock Cats, 4-1, in game one of an afternoon
doubleheader.
Tommy Watkins gave the Rock Cats the early advantage with an RBI
single in the fifth.
However, in the sixth inning, Sheldon Fulse tied the game with
a run- scoring single.
Then following a pitching
change, Roneberg stroked his second hit of the game to give the
Sea Dogs (14-23) the lead for good.
Sean McGowan, who had three hits in the game, finished the scoring
with an RBI double.
Jerome Gamble (2-2) gave up one run and six hits over six innings
to even his record for Portland.
Joe Nelson pitched out of a seventh-inning jam to preserve the
win and gain his sixth save of the season.
Henry Bonilla (3-4) took the loss for the Rock Cats (17-19).
The victory by the Sea Dogs snapped their six-game losing streak,
while the Rock Cats lost for the third time in the last five games.
Dogs earn split at New Britain
The Sea Dogs laid a six-game losing streak to rest in the opener
when a four-run rally in the sixth inning produced a 4-1 victory.
In the game, Rock Cats starter Henry Bonilla (3-4) lived dangerously
through five frames.
The Sea Dogs (14-24) put their leadoff hitter on each inning but
left their run column empty and trailed 1-0.
They finally broke out when Sheldon Fulse dribbled a two-out single
through the middle to score Hamden native Michael OKeefe.
With Bobby Korecky on
in relief, Brett Roneberg and Sean McGowan (3-for-4) lashed back-to-back
gappers to establish a three-run lead with one inning to go.
While the hits eased some frustrations, Johnson was searching
for intangibles in his teams approach.
The Rock Cats (18-19) gained an edge in the fifth against Jerome
Gamble (2-2) when B.J. Garbe singled, stole second, took third
on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out hit by Tommy Watkins.
Gamble allowed six hits, walked one and struck out three.
Closer Joe Nelson faced the tying run in the seventh but recorded
his sixth save.
Portland pounded out 13 hits while the Rock Cats collected seven.
Kevin Wests consecutive-game hitting streak, the longest
active stretch in baseball, came to an end at 19.
Luis Maza also had an eight-game skein shut down at the hands
of Gamble and Nelson.
Red Sox Notes - "Down on the Farm"
A split of Tuesday's doubleheader allowed Double-A Portland to
end a six-game losing streak.
In Game 1, Brett Roneberg
doubled home two in the sixth, when the Sea Dogs scored all four
of their runs.
