During the game
summary in the post-game show, the commentator mentioned that
in the fifth inning and with two down and a runner at second base,
a Baysox batter hit a "sharp ground ball" towards first
base - Brett tried to backhand it but it went under his glove
and into the outfield - the runner from second base scored - in
the commentators words "the batter was awarded a 'gift-base-hit'
by the scorers as it should have been an error to Roneberg"

Game Reports
BAYSOX TAKE FIRST PLACE
AFTER 5-3 WIN OVER PORTLAND
A four-run first inning was just enough for Bowie starter John
Maine and four relievers as the Baysox completed a three-game
sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs and, in the process, took over
first place of the Eastern Leagues Southern Division, following
a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Baysox (9-7) were the beneficiary of an erratic Ryan Cameron,
who started the game for Portland.
After one out, Jose Morban singled, stole second and advanced
to third on a wild pitch.
Cameron then walked Tony Mota and Walter Young, with Morban scoring
when ball four to Young went to the screen.
Another walk and hit batter allowed Mota to score, making it 2-0.
Woody Cliffords then delivered a two-RBI single to left, giving
Bowie a 4-0 lead, which they never relinquished.
Cameron (0-1) allowed two hits and four runs in four innings,
while walking five and striking out three on the way to the loss.
He also uncorked three wild pitches.
On the Bowie side, John Maine (3-0) was dominate for his third
time in four starts, tossing 5.1 innings, giving up two hits and
a run, on two walks and seven Ks.
The Baysox tacked on a run in the fifth, but Portland (4-11) made
things interesting with three runs in the sixth, thanks in large
part to a two run homer by Jeff Bailey against Bowie reliever
Javier Martinez, who allowed two hits and walked two without recording
an out.
Jacobo Sequea worked the final 1.1 innings for the Baysox to notch
his third save on the year, but not before SS Jose Morban made
a fantastic play to end the game.
With a runner on first and one out in the bottom of the ninth,
Morban leapt high to snare a Jesus Medrano liner, and then doubled
off Kenny Perez at first to end the game.
NOTES
It was Bowies first sweep of Portland since 1994.
Baysox take advantage
of Sea Dogs' deficiencies
History often has a way of repeating itself.
That simple truth couldn't have been more evident to the Portland
Sea Dogs during their 5-3 loss Sunday to the Bowie Baysox at Prince
George's Stadium.
The loss was Portland's fifth in a row and gave the Baysox their
first three-game sweep of the Sea Dogs since August 15-17, 1994.
As was the case in the previous two games in the series, the Sea
Dogs were hurt by poor pitching and an inability to get timely
hits.
"Right now it's just a combination of we're not pitching
real good and we're not swinging real good," said Sea Dogs
Manager Ron Johnson.
That doesn't equal good results."
Portland starter Ryan Cameron was his own worst enemy when the
Baysox came to bat in the bottom of the first.
Jose Morban slapped a one-out single and stole second.
Val Majewski hit a comebacker
to Cameron that he tossed to first baseman Brett Roneberg for
the second out.
Then the wheels fell off.
Cameron uncorked a wild pitch that moved Morban to third.
He then walked Tony Mota and Walter Young to load the bases, and
his first pitch to Kris Wilken was in the dirt, scooting away
from catcher Jeff Bailey to allow Morban to score.
After Wilken walked to load the bases again, Cameron hit Lance
Burkhart with a pitch to force home another run.
Woody Cliffords followed with a single to center that scored Young
and Wilken.
By the time Gary Cates flied out to center for the third out,
every batter in the Baysox lineup had been to the plate and Bowie
had a 4-0 lead.
"Pitching let us down, it's just one of those things,"
said Johnson.
"(Cameron) struggled with his command and just couldn't find
the zone. He was professional enough to battle through it and
get through four (innings), but he threw a lot of pitches in that
first inning."
Portland's three pitchers - Cameron, Charles Weatherly and Colin
Young - combined for five walks, two hit batsmen and five wild
pitches.
Meanwhile, Bowie starter John Maine cruised through 5 1/3 innings,
surrendering two hits and striking out seven.
Portland finally broke through in the sixth when Jeff Bailey greeted
reliever Javier Martinez with a two-run homer.
Martinez then walked Mike O'Keefe and John Hattig, and Eric Johnson
lined a single to load the bases.
Kenny Perez bounced into a fielder's choice that drove home O'Keefe,
but Sheldon Fulse struck out to end the threat.
NOTES
For the second straight day, the Sea Dogs made a roster move,
getting right-handed reliever Bo Donaldson from extended spring
training.
To make room on the active roster, reliever Jeremy Lambert was
placed on the disabled list.
On Saturday, Young, a left-hander, was promoted from Class A Sarasota.
