---Guam back out of Olympic Qualifier!!!
Guam have pulled out of
the 2004 Guam vs Australia Oceania Championship.
The tournament that was scheduled to start on the 28th January
until the 1st February has been cancelled.
Australia have now automatically advanced to the Africana vs
Oceania Olympic Qualifier where they will face South Africa for
the final place in the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Australian baseball officials were informed of Guam's decision
to back out of the series three days before the tournament was
due to start.
All Australian players will leave Blacktown today and will return
on Monday of next week for some intense training before the Olympic
Qualifier series, which is set to start on 5th-9th February
at Blacktown Olympic Park.
The Australian National Baseball Squad met today for their first
training session at Blacktown Olympic Park and will not meet again
until the 2nd February where they will have their second training
session in the evening.
At this stage, the team will train on the 2nd, possibly play a
game against Korean National team the LG Twins on the 3rd, train
once again on the 4th of February before the series starts on
the 5th of February.
On Wednesday
4th February, Channel Seven's national morning program, "SUNRISE",
did a series of cross-overs to the Australian Team which were
training at Blacktown Olympic Park Players were interviewed ... and pitching, batting and catching sections were covered ... plus a 'baseball brawl' The presenter did a very good job and some of the sections are quite funny This video runs for eighteen minutes ... and the interview with Brett commences at the sixteen minute mark ... he speaks about winning the Helms Award and the Athens Olympics NOTE - also check out the video further down this page |
