Bowie Baysox - home game at Blair County Ballpark
Playing first base - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) RHP - bases empty/one down - hit the first pitch
to second base - out "4-to-3"
------2) RHP - bases empty/one down - ball/foul/ball/ball,
and then "skyed the next pitch into left-centrefield"
- but the Baysox leftfielder stood there with his hands out to
his sides as he had lost the ball in the lights - and the ball
dropped safely!!! - and in the commentators words, "a
gift two-bagger for Roneberg!!!" - a stand up double!!!
- advanced to third base on a ground out, but was left stranded
at the end of the innings
------3) RHP - runners at first and second base/one down
- foul/foul/ball/ball/ball/foul, followed by a base hit to leftfield
- single - and advanced the runners to second and third base
- went to second base on a hit, and then to third on a ground
out - and once again was left on base at the end of the innings
------4) RHP - led off the innings - called/swing&miss/ball/ball/foul/ball/foul,
and then a fly ball into centrefield - out "F8"
Error!!!
With two runners on base and with one down in the top of the third
inning, the next Baysox hitter drove the ball towards first base
- "and it went through Roneberg's legs and into rightfield"
- error!!! - and this error combined with poor throwing/fielding
allowed two runs to score on the play!!! - and here are a few
things the commentator said about the incident - "after
a great defensive game last night, it looks like the Curve are
asleep tonight" - "poor defensive play by the
Curve infield" - "a big error leading to two
costly runs"
Fielding
During the top of the eighth innings, a Baysox batter hit a ball
slowly down the third base line - the Curve fielder was able to
get the ball and made a one-hop throw to first base - and in the
commentators words "it was nicely scooped by Roneberg"
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "Chris Shelton's two-run single in the seventh and a
Jose Castillo run-producing single in the eighth accounted for
the Curve's scoring.
Castillo, who along with Brett Roneberg, had the Curve's lone
two-hit games"

Bowie Baysox - home game at Blair County Ballpark
Playing leftfield - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) RHP - bases empty/one down - ball/ball/called-91mph
fastball!!!/ball - and then the broadcast dropped out!!!
- by the time it reconnected, the commentator was saying "and
the Curve take a 1-0 lead on the home run by Roneberg"
- and I didn't hear it!!! - (and there was much loud
swearing by the way!!!) - the commentator then mentioned that
it was "a solo blast over the rightfield wall"!!!
- HOME RUN and 1 x RBI
------2) RHP - runner at second base/one
down - foul/ball/foul, and then "drove that pitch into
the gap at left-centrefield and into the wall" - SLIDING INTO THIRD BASE FOR A TRIPLE
and 1 x RBI - and
that RBI was the tying run - and then scored on a hit by the
next Curve batter, and he was the go-ahead run!!!
------3) RHP - runners at first and third
base/two down - called/swing&miss/foul, followed by a fly
ball into short rightfield - out "F9"
------4) RHP - bases empty/one down - "Roneberg smoked
that first pitch to the Baysox shortstop who couldn't handle it"
- safe at first, but the play was ruled an error, so 'no hit'
to Brett!!! - reached second base on another error by the Baysox
infield - caught stealing trying to reach third, and the details
are below in the "Base-running" section
Heard during the Game
Jason Dambach was doing the game commentary as Brett came in for
his second at bat - also in the booth was Chuck Greenberg, the
Curve President and Managing Partner - they discussed Brett's
home run, and Chuck said that he was downstairs watching as Brett
hit the ball - he said "Brett turned on that pitch and
it got out of here in a hurry, and it was great to see Brett do
that"
Base-running
Brett was on second base during his fourth at bat, with another
baserunner at first base - it was one down, and the next Curve
batter had a 3-2 count - both runners took of on the next pitch,
and the batter struck out - the catcher threw to third for a "strike'em
out/throw'em out" play to end the innings!!! - the commentator
said that he thought "Roney was there in time"
- along with Brett arguing the call, the Curve Manager, Dale Sveum,
charged out of the dugout to "have a go at the third base
umpire, and he is very animated, even removing his cap to make
a point during the arguement!!!" - but the call stood!!!

2003 - Game #124
Listening to the game -
live on internet radio!!!
Akron Aeros - road game at Canal Park
Playing leftfield - batting at #5
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) RHP - led off the innings - ball/ball/called/foul/ball,
and the next pitch was "bounced back up the middle for a
base hit" - single - forced out at second base on an
infield hit by the next Curve batter
------2) RHP - led off the innings again - ball, and then
"ripped that pitch in to rightfield" - single - out at second base on a double play hit
------3) RHP - runner at first base/two down - grounded the
first pitch towards second base - out "4-to-3"
------0) RHP - runner at first base/two down - ball, and
then the runner was picked off at first base - and that was the
third out, so Brett will lead off the next innings
------4) RHP - led off the top of the ninth innings!!!
- with the Curve trailing by 3 runs to 2!!! - ball/called/ball/ball/called/foul,
and then "a line drive into rightfield for a base hit"
- single - and at first base as the potential tying run!!!
- but the next Curve batter hit an infield ground ball and Brett
was forced out at second base again
Base-running
After Brett reached first base in his fourth at bat, the next
hit was a grounder - the commentator that "Roney went
into second base very hard to break up any potential double play"
- and it worked, as the batter was safe at first
(as mentioned, this was the top of the ninth inning and the Curve
needed one run home to equal the score - but they lost 3-2!!!)
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "In the ninth, Altoona threatened to tie it against Fernando
Cabrera.
Brett Roneberg, who went 3-for-4, led off with a single.
With one out, Duffy hit into a force play and was safe at first.
He took third on a single by Shelton, but was stranded when Caruso
flied out to end the game"

- Game #125
Listening to the game -
live on internet radio!!!
Akron Aeros - road game at Canal Park
Playing first base - batting at #4
Had 4 plate appearances - 4 at bats
------1) RHP - runners at first and third base/one down -
ball/ball/called/ball/foul/foul - instead of throwing the full
count pitch, the Aeros pitcher threw to to first base and got
the runner caught in a run down play between first and second
base - during this, the Curve runner at third base broke for home,
but the Aeros first-baseman threw to home and the runner was tagged
out, making it two down - during the play at home, the Curve runner
who was caught in the run down reached second base safely - so
Brett was now batting with a '3-2' count, a runner at second base,
and with two down - on the next pitch, he chopped the ball towards
first base - out "PO3"
------2) RHP - runners at first and second base/none down
- ball/call, followed by a drive into rightfield for a base hit
- single - each of the runners moved up a base, but the ball
was bobbled by the Aeros rightfielder and the Curve runner scored
from third and the runner at second also moved up a base - Brett
reached second base on the play, and did not get credited with
an RBI - later in the innings and with two down, a Curve batter
hit an infield grounder which was misplayed and the batter would
have been safe at first with the error - however, in what the
commentator called a "base-running miscue", Brett
turned too far around third base and the Aeros player threw there
and Brett was tagged out to end the innings
------3) RHP - led off the innings - jumped on the first
pitch for a liner into rightfield!!! - single - out
at second base on a 'fielder's choice' play on an infield ground
ball by the next Curve batter
------4) RHP - bases empty/two down - lifted a fly ball into
shallow rightfield - out "F9"
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "Altoona made it 3-1 when, with Shawn Garrett at second
and Chan Perry at first, Brett Roneberg singled into rightfield
and the ball was bobbled by Ryan Church, allowing Garrett to stroll
home.
Roneberg and Chris Duffy each had two of the Curve's
six hits in the game"

ball hit towards shortstop - out "6-to-3"
------3)

Heard during the Game
(1) After Brett flew out to leftfield in his first at bat, the
commentator said "that Brett came into the game batting
0.267 and with that out he will see his average drop a bit, but
he is 'the hottest hitter' in the lineup at the present time!!!"
(2) Following Brett's single in his third at bat, the commentator
said the "Brett continues his hot hitting" and
"he is swinging a hot stick lately" - he then
mentioned that in his last ten games, Brett has gone 17 hits
from 36 at bats for an average of 0.472!!!
Fielding
(1) Top of the first inning and the first batter of the game hit
a ball up the third base line - it was a difficult play for the
Curve fielder but he made the play and threw a one-hopper to first
base - the commentator said "it was a nice scoop by Roney"
and a good defensive play by the Curve
(2) The top of the fifth innings, and a batter hit a ball down
the line at first base - Jason Dambach was calling the game, and
said "Roney made a back-handed, fine defensive play"
- he then went on to say that "Brett is helping out the
team with his defensive play as well as his fine offense"
(3) And in the top of the sixth innings, a Baysox batter "ripped
a hot shot" down the line at first base - Brett got over
"and made a very nice play, knocking it down with his
left hand and throwing to the pitcher covering first base"
- and Rob Egan, who was commentating the game, said "it
looked like it hurt him, but he appears to be okay"
