A Batting Spree!!!
Starting from early August until the season ended during the first week of September

Brett belted home runs, triples, doubles, drove in and scored runs, stole bases, etc, etc.

"A lot of comments" were made about his batting during this stretch, and these are included in the various Game Notes pages
I decided to list them all here as well, so they are all together
......and it makes pretty good reading!!!

Friday 15th August 2003

Heard during Friday's game
After Brett picked up a hit in his fourth at bat Rob Egan, the game commentator (left), said
"......and that extends Brett's hitting streak to 5 games,
and during that streak he has gone 8 hits from 20 at bats
for an average of 0.400
with 1 x home run, 1 x triple, 3 x doubles, and 3 x RBI's"

Saturday 16th August 2003

From the Curve web site - "News and Notes" - before Saturday's game
"C/1B Chris Shelton (6 games) and 1B/OF Brett Roneberg (5 games) each extended hitting streaks with singles in the eighth inning last night"

A few comments from Rob Egan (left), the Curve game announcer
"After Brett picked up his second hit of the night in his third at bat,
Rob said that Brett has now extended his hitting streak to seven games
and also mentioned that
"Roney continues his hot hitting" and "he has been really stinging the ball lately"

Monday 18th August 2003

Jason Dambach (left), Director of Media Relations for the Curve and one of the Game Commentators, announced the starting lineup for the game on Monday 18th August 2003
As he went down the list, he said that Brett Roneberg is batting fourth and playing leftfield.
He then mentioned that ---

Brett is the "Hottest Hitter" on the Curve roster at the present time!!!

"Rob was doing the game commentary as Brett had his first at bat, and here are some of his comments
"a big two-out hit"
"a very good at bat by Brett"
"showed a lot of patience at the plate"
"Brett has been on a tear recently"
"he has the longest active hitting streak on the Curve roster"

Monday 18th August 2003

From the Curve web site - "News and Notes" - after Monday's game
"The safety ran Roneberg's hitting streak to eight games.
During the string, he's batting 0.517"

Thursday 21st August 2003

During Thursday's game, Rob Egan (left) made the following comments
(1) after Brett picked up a hit in his first at bat, Rob said "he continues his 'hot hitting ways' and is now 18 for his last 39 for an average of 0.462"
(2) and with that hit, he said that "Roney has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games"
(3) Rob also mentioned that "Roneberg 'feasts' on Baysox pitching, and is currently 20 for 52 against the Bowie pitching staff"
(4) following Brett's double in his third at bat, Rob mentioned that "the ball coming in must be looking like a beach ball the way he is smacking it around"
(5) as the left-handed pitcher was brought in to face Brett in his fourth at bat, Rob said "that Brett is 'red hot' lately, and handles left handers very well with a 0.295 average"

Thursday 21st August 2003

From the Curve web site - "News and Notes" - after Thursday's game
"Roneberg is 20-for-42 (.476) in his last 11 games"

Friday 22nd August 2003

During Friday's game, Rob Egan (left) made the following comments
(1) as Brett came in for his fifth at bat, Rob said that "Brett has 22 hits from his last 46 at bats, and is batting 0.478 over his last twelve games"
(2) he also mentioned that "today is Brett's 29th multi-hit game of the season"

Saturday 23rd August 2003

Following the game, Rob Egan announced Brett as the
"Cracker Barrel Curve Player-of-the-Game"
and also said that "Roney continues to rip the baseball,
and is now 24 hits from his last 51 at bats, an average of 0.471"

Heard during the Game
The Curve radio broadcast was not working for Brett's first two at bats, and I listened via the Baysox web site and heard these comments from the announcers
(1) "Roneberg has been extremely hot recently, having hits in twelve of his last thirteen games
with most of them being multi hit games"
(2) "He has been a real important asset for the Curve over the last few weeks"
(3) "You have got to be very careful pitching around him, and if you make a mistake he can really hurt you"

Sunday 24th August 2003

Comments from Rob Egan (left) during Sunday's game
(1) "As Brett came in for his third at bat against the left-handed relief pitcher, Rob said that Brett handles leftties well, with a current average of 0.313 against them"
(2) After Brett his his home run in his fourth plate appearance, Rob said that
"Brett has been on an absolute tear at the plate"

......and then he mentioned the following statistics
He is currently on a 5 game hitting streak
and has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games,
with 10 of those games being multi-hit games.
His on-base streak is at 14 games, having picked a walk in the game in which he did not get a hit.
He is currently batting 25 from his last 54 at bats for a 0.463 average.

He also announced Brett as the
"Cracker Barrel Curve Player-of-the-Game"
for the second day running!!!

Monday 25th August 2003

Heard during the Games on Monday

(1) Jason said he had been speaking to Brett before the games about his current 'Hot Streak' and said
"that Brett is jokingly wondering when his "0 for" game is going to come!!!"
(2) As Brett came in for his first at bat in game one, Rob commented that
"that there is no other batter than this guy that you would want to be coming up in this situation"
(Brett had a good at bat, lining out to rightfield)

Monday 25th August 2003

On base Streak
Before the games on Monday, Brett's streak was at 14 games.
After his double in his first at bat in the second game Rob Egan said that this, combined with his walk in the first game,
extends his streak to 16 games!!!

Eastern League - "Player of the Week"
(18th to 24th August 2003)
As Jason Dambach was announcing the starting lineups for the first game, he mentioned that "Brett was edged out" of winning this Award!!!
He mentioned that his statistics over this period (12 from 26, 0.462 average, 3 home runs, double, 7 RBI's, 7 R, 3 W) were very similar to the winner, Jeff Bailey
(Jeff is a good friend of Brett's, and an ex-teammate at the Harrisburg Senators and the Portland Sea Dogs)

Altoona Curve
1B/OF Brett Roneberg batted .462 (12-for-26) with one double, three home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored in seven games last week.
Through Sunday Roneberg, who was a member of the 2000 Australian Olympic Baseball Team, is 25 for his last 54 (.463).

Heard during the Game

As Brett walked to the plate for his third at bat, Jason mentioned that
"Brett is the 'hottest' of all the Curve hitters at the moment and is batting 0.467 over his last 16 games"
He also said that Brett has a 16 game on-base streak going at the moment,
but he is '0 from 2' so far in this game!!!
......then he picked up the hit!!! - and the streak is extended to 17 games!!!

After picking up a hit in his fifth plate appearance, Rob said that
"Brett is now batting 30 from his last 64 (0.469) - incredible!!!"

After his walk in his second plate appearance, Jason said that Brett has now extended his on-base streak to 18 games

Sunday 31st August 2003

During Sunday's game, commentator Rob Egan (left) mentioned that
Brett is batting 0.389 during the month of August

Monday 1st September 2003

As Brett walked to the plate for his third at bat, Jason mentioned that Brett would be a "strong candidate" for
The Eastern League Player of the Month for August!!!
He said that with his 0.389 average combined with four home runs and 15 RBI's, he would be considered for this Award which will be announced later this week
