Fielding

(2) Later in the game there was another "3-to-1" play - this time the ball was in the hole at first base, and Brett got over and fielded the ball then underhanded it to the pitcher covering first base - "a fine play by Brett" according to the commentator
......and excerpts from the Newspapers and Team web sites
(1) "The Curve broke open a 2-0 game with four runs in the eighth inning against R-Phils' reliever Yoel Hernandez.
Ray Sadler came through with a two-run single to help put the game out of reach, and Joe Caruso and Brett Roneberg each knocked in a run with an RBI single"
(2) "Altoona scored four runs in the eighth to put the game away.
Bonifay doubled and scored on Joe Caruso's single.
Ray Sadler had a two-run single, and two batters later, Brett Roneberg added an RBI single"

He also said that Brett has a 16 game on-base streak going at the moment,
but he is '0 from 2' so far in this game!!!
......then he picked up the hit!!! - and the streak is extended to 17 games!!!

After picking up a hit in his fifth plate appearance, Rob said that

Game Two on Friday 29th August 2003
Email from Brett - INJURY!!!
Well as you all know, I came out of the second game as my back was "about to explode"!!
Doesn't feel really good right now,
but close your eyes Mum - some pills make you feel really good and take away some pain!!
Play-Off time so I need to play.
As of right now I am playing tomorrow,
and will be having Sunday off.
So hopefully I can get some treatment and be ready for the Play-Offs.
Don't worry at all ok.
"Just a little niggle" and I will be fine.
Talk soon,
and see you all soon.
......and a note from Sharon
"a little niggle" and "about to explode" do not match up!
Does it feel like the same as when you were with the Cougars?
I know you need to play but be careful and let us know what the outcome is.
Do you know how it happened?
Don't take too many drugs either!!
Love,
Mum.
......and a reply from Brett
Thank you for your worries.
And I guess the two don't go along well together!!
But I feel ok this morning so I will see how the game goes.
Bye.
Email from Geoff to Brett
Boy, that's a damn shame!!!
But fingers crossed "that it just goes away"!!!
Just three more games left in the regular season.
To me, these are more important than the Play-Offs because these games and stats are what are recorded against your name in "the history of baseball"!!!
The Play-Offs are great, and should be a fun and a real exciting time.
So, for both reasons, I hope that everything goes okay for you.
(1) Your last ten/twelve at bats in the season, and
(2) you bring another Championship Ring home!!!
It is around 7.00am Sunday morning here, and will be tuning in for the game at nine o'clock.
Will be wishing you well, and hoping that "nothing bad happens"!!!
NOTE - Sharon asked about it being similar to the time at the Cougars.
I still have that brace!!!
Will I send it over???
See you, and take care.
A note from Brett before the game on Saturday 30th August 2003
Not playing today.
The Manager said I was and then today he took me into the office and said he just thought he would give me another day.
I told him I felt ok and I can play,
but there is a 'tough lefty' today and tomorrow,
so he is going to put me in tomorrow, hopefully, for two at-bats as the starter comes out of the game around the sixth inning or so.
He told me I am going to probably hit 3rd or 4th during the Play-Offs,
and I will most likely play leftfield, but maybe rightfield because he doesn't know where Sadler feels most comfortable.
I told him I am fine in either position.
Today I got some treatment and hit a little bit and feel pretty good.
Still a little tender but I will get more treatment today and tomorrow and I will be fine.
So I have about a 1% chance of playing today.
So you might not even want to listen - up to you.
Sorry I am not playing
but I will be ready for the Play-Offs
Will write after the game
See ya
......and a reply from Geoff
Hi,
and I have just received your email about the games today and tomorrow.
I sent mine off before I checked the Inbox.
Glad you have had some treatment, and
Glad you are feeling a bit better.
We will keep on eye on things either via the radio or the box scores.
Enjoy your "Time on the Pine"!!!
