An Australian Classic Art Deco Design

This radio was made by the "TECNICO - ARISTOCRAT" Company
Aristocrat radio at some stage combined their resourses with Tecnico and came up with this wonderfully shaped radio
This example has the original factory-painted finish and is just superb for a radio of 1946

The transformer has been changed and all capacitors replaced, etc

We had the winning bid !! ...... and paid $325.00 ...... plus packing, posting and insurance

Tecnico Aristocrat Model 651 Radio
Built in 1946, the Tecnico Aristocrat featured a distinctive "mottled" bakelite cabinet
This cabinet was completely different to those used by other manufacturers,
some of which were still using cabinets from their pre-war models
The set pictured here is a 5-valve dual-wave radio with a 20cm (8-inch) permanent magnet speaker
Loudspeakers of this size were rarely seen in mantel or table radio
A colourful badge and dial glass complete the attractive presentation
The set was advertised as being available in various colours and Tecnico achieved this by painting over the bakelite
This particular unit has been fully restored by its owner

Up for auction is this great old radio in fully working condition
Some of the power capacitors have been replaced
This radio picks up every station with plenty of volume
The dial lights up and looks great
Unfortunatly there's a downside!!
The bakelite case has been damaged!!
There are a couple of long cracks on the right side bottom
and a section in the top corner has been glued in place
Please see pics
These are visible up close
However these do not detract from the overall appearance of the radio
It would still look good in your home!!

Two original buttons are missing
and I'm replacing them with a couple of white Airzone ones
Radio powers up and you get a hum out of the speaker
I'm selling 'as is' as I'm not licensed to deal with this
I suggest you get a licensed person to have a look at it
Also, I didn't try an antenna with it
Dimensions are 44cm x 24cm x 19cms

Auction #04

As you will read in the description, this radio has not been tested
so does it work?? ... and the knobs are missing

Tecnico Aristocrat Radio - Model #651
This is a rare model and has the Serial #152223
A very rare model in any condition!
It has a dark brown case and is complete except for knobs and rear cover
Please note that this radio is unrestored
I have not tried to plug it in as it is my policy not to do that until a radio is fully refurbished
The radio is complete with no signs of any damage
As mentioned, the knobs are missing but these are cheap to get
It would probably be an easy restoration for the lucky winner...and when restored is worth over $500!!
If it does not sell at auction, then I will pack it away and resotre it when I get settled at the new home
I honestly thought it would attract hundreds of bids due to the rarity
... but ... I guess not many know its true worth!!

This auction ended on Sunday 26th October 2008
