"Mary Ann
Ward Webb - Her Life and Ancestry"
Published by The
American Society for Genealogy and Family History
Mary Ann Ward was born in 24 October 1840
in Walpole St. Peter, Norfolk, England, on the boundary of the
County of Norfolk with the County of Cambridge
She was the daughter of Robert Ward and Isabella Watford Ward
About 1850 she, her sister Jemima, her mother, and others of
the family were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints (Mormon)
As a teenager, Mary Ann Ward determined to earn money so she
could emigrate to Utah to join the main body of church members
She moved to London, and in early June 1864 she left England
to travel to the United States aboard the ship Hudson
She arrived in Salt Lake City on November 2, 1864
She married George Webb in 1865 in Lehi, Utah County, Utah
He was also from England - born in 1839 in Studham, Bedfordshire,
the fourth child of William and Emma Stokes Webb
His parents and his brothers and sister were also converts to
Mormonism, and most of the Webb family were also members of the
same company which traveled to Utah aboard the ship Hudson and
arrived in Salt Lake City in late 1864
George Webb was married before he left England, but his wife
Julia Cushing Webb died in Nebraska on the journey to Utah
Although George Webb and Mary Ann Ward Webb lived briefly in
American Fork Canyon for several months after their marriage,
they soon returned to Lehi and remained there for most of the
rest of her life
She and George Webb were the parents of nine children
