One of the most interesting documents in the
possession of the Cornwall Record Office at Truro is the will
of William Penberthy of Uny Lelant, dated 6th February 1666 William made this will by word of mouth on his death bed He dictated it to Richard Thomas and John Penberthy In it, he left £5 to each of his children and named his wife as his executrix From his inventory, dated the 29th September 1667, and produced to the Probate Court, it could be seen that he was a wealthy man He was half-owner of Wheal, a mine in Polmanter, along with two tin bounds elsewhere, and owned his own house and various fields The total came to £46.0l.06 ... quite a substantial amount for those days ! |
