Second bedroom ...... now airconditioned!!!
Unit 23 ... Regency
Gardens ... Manunda ... Cairns
A
note from Geoff
Sharon's Mother
(Laurel Coudrey) died in July 2001
From the inheritance, we wanted to buy Tanya and Brett something
they could use each day, in her memory
Tanya chose a microwave and Brett an airconditioner
The airconditioner was installed in his room at Trinity Beach
And it was definately used! .. every day! .. when he was back
in Cairns during the USA baseball off-season
Then came that 'awful day'
...... when Sharon threw Brett out on the street, telling him
he couldn't live here anymore!!
So the aircon just hung in the window
For a couple of years, Brett stayed with friends and also in a
beachside unit at Trinity
Then, during the 2007/8 off-season, Brett lived with Tanya
There is a huge airconditioner in her lounge room, but nothing
in the two bedrooms
So Brett and I pulled it out and took it to Tanya's, intending
to just wack it in the window
We looked at each other, both thinking ... "We can't do this!!"
So Brett had a professional install it, and he did an excellant
job
Tanya's happy she now has another airconditioner in her home
Brett is happy that he can now sleep comfortably at night
and "R.I.P. --- Laurel Coudrey"...

Another
note from Geoff
To the right of the airconditioner
in the above photo, you can see the beginnings of a bird's nest
Below are a few details on the bird
I'm sure that both Tanya and Brett will keep their eyes on it
as
... the construction continues ...
... the romance blossoms ...
... eggs are laid, and ...
... babies are born and raised ...
Hopefully the noise will not bother them, and that the nest isn't
'cooked' by the aircon exhaust!!
(it will be interesting to see if this Mother throws her kid out
the house)
Yellow-bellied
Sunbird
Nectorinia jugularis
Size - 10 to 12 cms
Description
A small bird with olive-green upperparts and darker wings
The underparts are yellow, and in the male the chest and chin
are iridescent blue
Legs, feet, eyes and bill are black
They have a long slender curved bill that enables them to extract
nectar from tubular flowers
The elaborate and highly decorated
Sunbird's nest is constructed by the female
while the male helps with the feeding of the young
Although primarily a nectar feeder, Sunbirds feed their young
on insects
They often build their nest close to areas of high human activity
