Auction starting at 9.00am on Sunday 14th October 2007
Venue - Cairns Showgrounds
Fine Art - Antiques - Collectables
White Goods and Furniture from Deceased Estates and Other Vendors

A note from Geoff on Wednesday 24th October 2007

We went along to the above auction and picked up a few items, one of them being this kettle
It will be a display item in the kitchen

As you can see in the photos, it is in 'fair' condition
The internal enamel coating is okay, but the exterior needs a bit of cleaning and tidying up

At one of Kornby's previous auctions, we bought a cast iron muffin tray
This was also rusted and in need of 'restoration' ...... and Sharon did a great job!!
Have a look at the tray
HERE

I will add more photos to this page once it has been cleaned and tidied up

Price paid - $55.50

Information #03 ... Photo of the Workshop

NOTE #1 - this photo has been uploaded in two sizes
The first is a shot which is 700 pixels wide
To retain clarity, it has also been uploaded in it's original size
Large!! - in fact, it is 1881 pixels wide x 1342 pixels deep
This means that you may have to use the 'left-right' scroll bar as well as the 'up-down' bar
This is especially relevant for those using a screen resolution of 800 x 600

NOTE #2 - there is a detailed description below the larger photo

A reproduction of a photograph taken by H. J. Whitlock in 1911, of workers
casting holloware in a workshop at the Shakespeare Foundry on the Horseley Fields premises

Note the child workers in the group - and one of them appears to be holding
a hot piece of equipment without protective clothing of any kind

The device on a pole to the left is a mould for a kettle

Piles of kettles can be seen to the right

Auction #01

The measurements given in the auction details are a little bigger than ours
but the capacity is smaller - 2.5 pints where ours is marked 3 pints - ???

Cast Iron Kettle
This antique kettle has an imprint written on the lid
and I believe it states - "T & C Clark & Co Ltd Wolverhampton"
There is more writing on it but I can't read it
It also has writing underneath as follows - "T & C Clark & Co Ltd England First Quality 2.5 pints"
The kettle was made in England either the late 1800's or early 1900's
There are some rust marks on the outside of the kettle
It is fully enamel lined and this lining is in excellent condition
This kettle measures 24cms high and its width from one side to the end of the spout is 26.5cms
It weighs around 3.5kgs

This auction was in August 2007
The starting price was set at $95.00
There were no bids

Also stamped is "RD 665875 4 Pints No 1 First Quality"

This was found in an old shed, and could be one-hundred-years old!!
Would be great for any collection

Four Pint Cast Iron Antique Kettle
This is a cast iron kettle from either late 1800's or early 1900's
It holds 4 pints
The kettle was made by T&C Clark & Co. LTD
First Quality and Made in England is also imprinted on its base
It is enamel lined inside but has worn away a bit
There is a bit of rust on this kettle as seen in photos
If it's the antique, worn look you are after then this one would be ideal
Overall it is in good condition for its age
Item location - Lavington, New South Wales Australia
This auction ended on Sunday 22nd June 2008
The starting price was set at $90.00
There were no bids (after numerous listings since June 2008)
