Baysox avoid the sweep - Sea Dogs fall 7-3

The Portland Sea Dogs were unable to hang on for the sweep Thursday night, falling to the Bowie Baysox 7-3 at Hadlock Field
The Sea Dogs went 4-2 on the homestand, taking 2 of 3 from Bowie
Matt Goodson (1-1) suffered the loss for Portland after allowing five runs (three earned) in five innings, while fanning a career high ten batters
Beau Hale (3-2) walked away with the win for Bowie giving up three runs off four hits in five innings pitched
The Sea Dogs started strong scoring the first three runs of the game, but the Baysox came back with six runs in the middle innings to take the final lead
Bowie’s big hit came in the fifth inning with a two-out, bases loaded single by Luis Hernandez, which along with an error by Cory Keylor scored a total of four runs
Bowie’s bullpen threw the final four innings without giving up a run
Jeff Corsaletti provided a bright spot offensively for the Sea Dogs going 3-for-5 at the plate with a RBI
Jacoby Ellsbury was 2-for-4, scored twice and stole his eight base of the season
The Sea Dogs begin a three game weekend series with the Binghamton Mets on Friday night in Binghamton, New York
Portland will return home on Monday for an eight game-seven day homestand with the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) and Binghamton Mets

Jacoby Ellsbury promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket

The Boston Red Sox have promoted Sea Dogs’ outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury to Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday morning
Outfielder Jay Johnson will join the Sea Dogs from Single-A Lancaster
Ellsbury appeared in 17 games with the Sea Dogs in 2007 hitting a Minor League Baseball best .452
He leads the Eastern League in hits (33), doubles (10), on base percentage (.518) and slugging percentage (.644)
Ellsbury has hit safely in 15 consecutive games, the longest hitting streak for a Sea Dog since Brett Roneberg hit safely in 18 straight games in 2004
Ellsbury has reached base safely in 25 consecutive games dating back to August 27th, 2006 and 61 of the 66 games that he has played with the Sea Dogs
Ellsbury began the 2006 season at Single-A Wilmington where he was a Carolina League All-Star hitting .299 with 25 stolen bases
He earned a promotion to Portland on July 13th where he helped lead the Sea Dogs to an Eastern League Championship, hitting .308 in 50 regular season games
The 23 year-old is ranked the #2 prospect in the Red Sox organization by Baseball America
Ellsbury was drafted by the Red Sox in the first round (23rd overall) in the June 2005 draft
