Duchess China in it's various forms has
been around since 1888
The Directory of European Porcelain (NAG Press) shows that A.
T Finney and Sons had used a number of names to trade but the
most famous was Duchess China
Also included was a brand called Diamond China
All china was produced from Duchess China Works in Longton, Stoke
on Trent, United Kingdom
In 1947 A T Finney and Sons, under the brand Duchess China, produced
china tea services
John and Tom Finney took the company over from their father and
ran the business successfully for many years but more recently
sold the company to the John Tams Group PLC
This was initially a success but the John Tams Group PLC went
in to receivership around February 2000
Thankfully the Duchess China name lives on and pottery is still
made today by Duchess China Ltd in the original Duchess China
Works in Longton, Stoke on Trent
The changing manufacturing techniques over the years ensured that
the original Duchess China continued in business for many years,
however, the original A T Finney quality could probably never
be duplicated today for cost reasons
If you have some old Duchess China, look after it!! - it comes
from a bygone era!!
Patterns of A.

are in high circulation in the secondary market place

but remains still a quality product - see for yourself in the
