Excerpts from game reports
(1). Senators' big victory extends series, meaning fireworks
at Dodd
Chuck Crumpton pitched eight scoreless innings and Brett
Roneberg drove in three runs to help the Harrisburg
Senators defeat the Norwich Navigators, 11-2, taking the third
game in their best-of-five League Championship Series.
Roneberg singled home two runs,
followed by a two-run blast by Val Pascucci, in a six-run second
inning and delivered a sacrifice fly
with one out in the third.
Roneberg now has six RBI and
Pascucci has four homers and seven RBI in
the playoffs this season.
(2). Senators break out
Only instead of turning the inning-ending double play to keep
the game scoreless, second baseman Teuris Olivares let the grounder
skip between his legs for an error.
McKinley scored on the costly error, which mutated into five more
runs on Albenis Machado's double, Brett
Roneberg's two-run single and Valentino Pascucci's
two-run homer.
(3). Senators Stay Alive
Albenis Machado and Brett Roneberg each
added a pair of hits for Harrisburg.
(4). Harrisburg 11, Norwich 2
Norwich second baseman Teuris Olivares made a costly fielding
error in the second on a ground ball that should have resulted
in an inning-ending double play.
The Senators went on to score six times.
Pascucci had the big hit in the inning, which came one batter
after Brett Roneberg singled home two
runs.
(5). Navigators Lose Their Feel
Navigators starter Andy Beal got out of a bases loaded mess in
the first, stranding three runners who had reached on an error,
single and walk.
He was not nearly as fortunate in the second inning, when the
Senators scored six runs on five hits and an error.
Val Pascucci had a two-run homer and Brett
Roneberg a two-run single.
(6). Game three a dud for Gators
Any anticipation felt throughout the ballpark for a possible series-clincher
fizzled quickly when the Senators scored six runs in the second
inning.
Norwich starter Andy Beal induced what should have been an inning-ending
double play ball to Teuris Olivares, who watched it roll under
his glove and allow a run to score.
Albenis Machado hit an RBI double, Brett
Roneberg a two-run single and Valentino Pascucci a
majestic two-run homer to make it 6-0.
(7). Notes
Less than 24 hours after manager Dave Huppert dismissed the notion
of activating Scott Hodges from the disabled list, the
Expos activated the hobbling third baseman for last night's game.
Hodges, on the DL since Aug. 30 with an infected right quadriceps,
pinch-hit in the ninth inning for Roneberg
and popped out on the first pitch he saw.
