About 3.00pm the day after Cyclone Yasi, a Storm hit the Cairns area

This storm, though short, was very violent and dropped a huge amount of rain

Though they had been cleared, the shots below show that the drainage systems
here at Mahogany Village could not cope ...... and the water slowly crept upwards

Fortunately the rain eased and the flow away improved and no water got into our unit

!!--The Storm Hits--!!

Working with another resident in trying to clear the drain inlets

The wash from his car almost reached our unit plus the Blue Lagoon Reception on the right

These guys arrived and explained that as we had been trying to clear them here, they had also been
working on drain inlets further down the line ... they also mentioned that storm gates which had
been partially closed during the cyclone had now been fully opened

The water starts to recede

!!--very scary hour or two--!!
