(Return to "Happy Birthday, Mum ... from Brett" page)

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October 2009

NOTE - this page includes fifteen photos and two videos and they were all taken with a phone/camera
The quality isn't the best ... but they are still nice to have as a memento of the trip anyway !!

We began our day early to catch the plane to Townsville and then there was a four hour wait to catch the connecting flight to Brisbane

But Tanya had come prepared ... very well prepared !!
She proceeded to remove an avocado, two boiled eggs and two bread rolls from her bag
She had a word to the assistant in the coffee shop ... and came back with salt, pepper and a knife
Voila ... there was breakfast ... backpacker style !!
Only had to buy the coffee

Later, after a few hours, Tanya rang Geoff and said she couldn't talk any more ... three hours was too much !!
Not true ... it was nice spending time together ... we don't do it often enough

The flight was very bumpy going into Brisbane ... yikes ... and I didn't like that !!

We then caught the train to South Bank and walked to the hotel ... and it was hot ... 34C and windy

Checked in and Tanya's friend Karen and her new baby Zoe came to say hello ... it was nice to catch up ... Zoe is a sweetie!

After Karen left we went for a walk on the South Bank and chose where we going to have our dinner

While we were getting ready for dinner we drank some champagne, courtesy of Brett, and I am afraid I drank my glass too quickly and I was a little bit drunk!
I can't believe how light headed and giddy I was ... and I also had trouble speaking and doing my belt up !!
Tanya said she would need ten glasses to get close to that !!

I managed to stagger to dinner and then I was okay
Dinner was delicious and then we walked to the Lyric Theatre ... and that's where the fun started !!

John Farnham is awesome ... what a great entertainer ... what a great voice !!
Tons of energy and he was having tons of fun
My favourites were 'You're the Voice' which was incredible and 'Help' which I reckon he sings better than the Beatles
Tanya said I didn't sing enough but I was just mesmerised ... anyway, she sang loud enough for both of us !!
At the end of the show every person in the theatre was standing ... I get teary thinking about it

Then back to the hotel and chocolate dipped strawberries (again courtesy of Brett) on the balcony

Life is good !!

We had a nice buffet breakfast then off to the airport and back home safe and sound

... and my final note is right at the bottom of this page ...

Not the last time for 'The Voice' John Farnham

Johnny Farnham has had more comebacks than Nellie Melba, and here he is again, six years on from his farewell with "The Last Time"

A sold-out run of six shows at Brisbane's Lyric Theatre kicked off last night - there will be thirty-seven of them around the country - and this certainly won't be goodbye, with plans for a full-scale return to the fray with a new album in 2010

For now, Farnham's voice, boy-next-door charm and checklist of hits from 'Burn For You' to 'You're The Voice' are all in solid working order

Farnham's latest return to the stage received a maximum blast of publicity thanks to his appearance with Coldplay at the Sound Relief charity bash in March, and Coldplay provide the one newcomer to the set with a version of their song 'Lost'
It shows that Farnham still has an ear for new material and is able to make it his own

'Age Of Reason', an unusual song for Farnham then and now, is an early highlight of the set and gives his long time keys player Chong Lin a chance to show off his jazz chops
Farnham strips back the sound for 'Burn For You' all the better to show that he hasn't lost his range or power
The second half of the show picks up the tempo with 'Chain Reaction', 'Two Strong Hearts' and a rousing 'That's Freedom'
With that de facto national anthem 'You're The Voice' he has the crowd to their feet

After this six-week tour, Farnham, who joked he's spent his retirement years in restaurants, is certainly going to be fighting fit for the studio
