Chinese Taipei holds on to win in ten innings 2-1

Chinese Taipei triumphed in a pitcher's duel this evening at Melbourne Ballpark, Altona to take out their second win in the fifth game of the Financial Wealth International Baseball Challenge by a score of 2-1

Chinese Taipei starting pitcher Ying-Feng Tsai dominated the Australian batters, holding them to three hits over seven innings while recording five strikeouts and allowing an unearned run to score

Wei-Ming Chu and Toronto Blue Jays prospect Po-Hsuan Keng held the Aussies to two hits over the final three innings

Aussie starter Phil Brassington settled down after allowing a walk and two hits in the first inning
Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Chin-Lung Hu singled home lead-off batter Lung-Yi Huang to put the first Taiwan run on the board

The score line would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Dean White reached first base on an error to lead off the inning
Andrew Utting singled White to second base and the next batter Brad Dutton reached on an error
Trent Oeltjen then walked with the bases loaded to score the first Australian run

Chinese Taipei would secure what ended up being the win in extra innings when Seng Yang reached first base on a one-out error
Yang then stole second base and advanced to third base on a ground out
Peter Moylan, who was cruising along holding the Taiwanese hitless with two strikeouts, then uncorked a pitch that tied up catcher Michael Collins allowing what would be the winning run to score
Moylan then struck out Tai-Shan Chang to end the inning

Australia left the potential tying and winning runs on base in the bottom of the 10th inning when Luke Hughes struck out to end the game

Tim Cox, Glen Richards and Adam Bright held the Taiwanese scoreless with Boston Red Sox farmhand Cox striking out three of the five batters he faced

Australia holds a 3-2 lead in the eight-match series with Chinese Taipei and continues at Melbourne Ballpark in Altona tonight (7.30 pm EST)
