the Akron Aeros on Wednesday night, scoring six runs in the first
two innings on their way to an 8-5 victory at Canal Park
After scoring just two
runs in the first two games of the series combined, Altoona scored
three runs in their first at-bat, including an RBI double by Brett Roneberg, who finished
the game with four hits and three RBI
The Curve would watch their early 3-0 lead evaporate when the
Aeros answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the
first to tie the ballgame, on back-to-back homers
Altoona would hang another three tallies on the scoreboard in
the second inning and hold off the Aeros, who had won the first
two games of the series by a combined margin of 9-2
Jason Roach earned the victory, allowed five runs on three home
runs in five innings pitched
Franklin Perez combined with Blaine Neal combined to throw the
final four innings
Perezs perfect ninth inning gave him his second save of
the year extended his scoreless-innings streak to 20-1/3, tying
the franchise record set by Chris Spurling in 2003
Losing pitcher Nick Pesco, lasted just four innings and surrendered
seven runs on nine hits
The right-hander has now allowed sixteen runs in five innings
pitched against the Curve, and has taken the loss in both his
appearances against Altoona
The Curve would pile up sixteen total hits, including four by Roneberg
and Javier Guzman, two of five Curve players with multi-hit efforts
Altoona broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the second inning, when
Guzman opened the at-bat with a triple and scored when Nyjer Morgan
singled to left
Morgan would steal both second and third base before scoring on
a ground out by Vic Buttler
The Curve would add
another run in the second innings when Roneberg lifted his seventh
home run of the year over the center field wall
