Heard during the game

(#01) During the top of the first innings, the Curve's number two hitter, Craig Stansberry, singled and reached first base - the commentator said - "Stansberry has eight stolen bases this year and has been caught three times ...... both he and Brett Roneberg, who has two steals and been caught once, are excellant base runners ...... neither of them are the fastest on the bases, but they use the angles well and could be classed as 'text-book' base runners"

(#02) As Brett came in for his first at-bat, the commentator said - "Brett Roneberg steps in now and he is currently seventh in the Eastern League with a batting average of .302 ...... and he is also tied for fourth position with fourty-two runs scored for the season"

(#03) During the fourth innings the commentator mentioned - "The Eastern League All Star Team rosters are announced on Thursday and the Curve have a chance for six players to be selected ...... as far as position players go, you would have to think that Buttler, Roneberg and Pond have a chance to represent the Curve at Blair County Ballpark on Wednesday 12th July"

Curve head home on roll

The Curve don’t plan to sit back and watch Akron run away with the Southern Division
The Aeros had inched close to that “we own them” status with five straight victories over Altoona, and they made it six in a row by capturing the opener of a three-game series Saturday night

The past two days, though, the Curve proved they can hang in there with the Aeros in the battle for Southern supremacy
Altoona won Sunday and captured the series rubber game, 5-3, Monday night at Canal Park to pull within three games of first-place Akron

With the Aeros set for a four-game visit to Blair County Ballpark starting Friday, the Curve have a golden opportunity this week to draw closer and perhaps even regain the top spot in the division
Standing between now and then is a three-game home series against Bowie, which is 0-4 against Altoona this season

Ray Sadler got the Curve off to a fast start Monday night with a three-run double in the first inning

Shane Youman then worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first to propel the visitors to the key road win

Youman (5-2) continued an amazing run of success by Curve starting pitchers, giving up one run over six innings
The lefty allowed six hits, struck out one and walked one while dropping his ERA to 1.63

Curve starters have compiled a 1.76 ERA over the past twelve games, giving up only thirteen earned runs in 66-1/3 innings
Altoona is 8-4 in those contests

The only game the Curve lost to Akron in the series was a ten-inning, 1-0 defeat Saturday night
In three games, Altoona held the Eastern League’s top-hitting club to only four runs

The Curve led 5-0 after five innings Monday against Akron starter Adam Miller (7-5), with Rafael Alvarez’s RBI single highlighting a two-run fifth

The Aeros scored a pair of runs off Curve reliever Chris Hernandez, but Jorge Vasquez recorded the final five outs for his fifth save

Curve ground Aeros

Ray Sadler's first-inning three-run double sparked Altoona to a 5-3 victory over Akron on Monday
Sadler ripped a two-out line drive into center field to give the Curve (45-30) an early 3-0 lead

Altoona tacked on two runs in the fifth, including Rafael Alvarez's RBI single to right

Alvarez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and David Parrish added two hits and also drove in a run for the Curve

Shane Youman (5-2) won his fifth straight decision, yielding one run on six hits and a walk while striking out one in six innings

Jorge Vasquez struck out two in 1-2/3 one-hit frames to pick up his fifth save

Ryan Goleski went 3-for-3 with a homer and a walk and Brad Snyder and Ryan Mulhearn added RBI singles for Akron (48-27)

Starter Adam Miller (7-5) suffered the loss as he gave up five runs on ten hits and three walks through five innings

Game Recap

Ryan Goleski was 3-for-3, including a solo home run in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough to shake the Aeros out of the offensive slump in which they've scored just four runs in their last twenty-eight innings

With their 5-3 loss to Altoona, the team's lead in the Southern Division is down to three games - prompting a closed-door meeting after the loss
