Game Reports
Ray Sadler broke an early tie with a three-run
home run in the third inning and the Altoona Curve never relinquished
the lead in defeating the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 7-3, Saturday
night in Manchester
The Curve (36-24) have won the first two games of their three-game
series against the Fisher Cats and have a chance to complete the
sweep when the two clubs meet in the final game of the series
Sunday afternoon at Merchants Auto.com Stadium
Sadler's sixth home run in nineteen games since joining Altoona
from Triple-A Indianapolis on May 19th came off Fisher Cats' starter
Ismael Ramirez and gave Altoona a 5-2 advantage
The Curve right fielder finished the day 3-for-4 and has knocked
in eight runs in three games on the current road trip
Ramirez (4-5), who did not allow more than two runs in any of
his first ten starts, was roughed up by the Curve for the second
time in as many outings
The right-hander was tagged for six runs - two earned - in four
innings of work to suffer the loss
He also took the loss last Sunday at Blair County Ballpark in
Altoona's 3-1 win
Meanwhile, Curve starter Shane Youman used the early run support
to his advantage and picked up his third win of the season
Youman (3-2), who came out of the bullpen to make just his third
start, went five solid innings, allowing just two runs on six
hits
The left-hander was called upon to join the rotation after recent
injuries to starters Josh Shortslef and Chris Rojas
Relievers Blaine Neal, Chad Blackwell and Jorge Vasquez combined
to allow just one run over the final four innings to preserve
the win
Vasquez struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to finish
off the Fisher Cats
After grabbing the 5-2 lead on Sadler's three-run homer, Altoona
added single insurance runs in the fourth and eighth innings on
a Brandon Chaves RBI single and a solo home run by Brant Ust -
his fourth of the season
Right-hander Landon Jacobsen (6-5, 3.50) will take the mound for
the Curve in Sunday's 1.05pm series finale
New Hampshire will look to avoid a three-game sweep by sending
righty Michael McDonald (5-3, 3.36) to the hill
Following Sunday's game, the Curve will return to Pennsylvania
and take on the Reading Phillies in a single-game Monday night
at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park
Altoona will return to Blair County Ballpark to open a six-game
homestand Tuesday night against Harrisburg
RF Ray Sadler went 3-for-5 including a three-run
homer and the Altoona Curve beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats
7-3 Saturday before 5,663 at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium in Manchester
Shane Youman (3-2) picked up the win, the second straight in the
series for the Curve, allowing 1 earned run on six hits in five
innings of work
He walked two and struck out one
Altoona (36-24) took a 2-0 lead in the second on a double by 1B
Simon Pond, an RBI triple by LF Rafael Alvarez (2-for-5) and a

New Hampshire (26-33) tied the game in the second
3B Eric Arnold (0-for-2, 2 SF, 2 RBI) drove in CF Ron Davenport
with a sacrifice fly
SS Manny Mayorson had an RBI single
Sadler's sixth homer off Fisher Cat starter Ismael Ramirez (4-5)
was a three-run shot in the third that gave the Curve a 5-2 lead
SS Brandon Chavez added an RBI single in the fourth for Altoona,
and 3B Brant Ust hit a solo homer in the eighth for Altoona
Eric Arnold added a second RBI with a sacrifice fly in the eighth
for New Hampshire
The Fisher Cats and Curve complete the series Sunday afternoon
at 1.05pm with RHP Mike MacDonald (5-3, 3.36) on the mound for
New Hampshire against Altoona RHP Landon Jacobsen (6-5, 3.50)
Ray Sadler's three-run third-inning homer powered
visiting Altoona to a 7-3 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday
The 25-year-old right fielder cranked his sixth blast to center
field off starter Ismael Ramirez (4-5) giving the Curve (36-24)
a 5-2 lead
He collected three of Altoona's 10 hits
After an RBI triple by the Curve's Rafael Alvarez and a run-scoring
single by Javier Guzman in the top of the second, the Fisher Cats'
Eric Arnold hit a sacrifice fly and Manuel Mayorson delivered
an RBI single in the bottom half to knot the score for the Fisher
Cats (26-33)
Arnold's sacrifice fly in the eighth capped the scoring for New
Hampshire
Guzman scored on an error by shortstop Mayorson in the fourth,
and Brant Ust slammed a leadoff homer, his fourth, in the eighth
for Altoona
Altoona's Shane Youman gave up two runs on six hits over five
innings in his third start
He walked three and struck out one
The "Adam Boeve for Ray Sadler" trade
seems to be working out just fine for the Curve
Altoonas offense figured to take a big hit when Boeve, the
Eastern League Player of the Month for April, was promoted to
Triple-A Indianapolis on May 18
But Sadler, who came down from Indy, has given the Curve more
production than Boeve did
Sadler belted a three-run homer in the third inning to help Altoona
pull away for a 7-3 win over New Hampshire on Saturday night at
MerchantsAuto.com Stadium
Brant Ust also homered for the Curve, who have won two in a row
after dropping seven of eight
Sadler has ripped six homers and driven in 19 runs in just 19
games since joining the Curve
He went 3-for-5 Saturday and is hitting .258, compared to Boeves
.333, but hes come through in the clutch numerous times
in a short span to spark Altoonas offense
Sadler entered Saturdays game hitting .313 with runners
in scoring position and .286 with runners in scoring position
and two outs, compared to Boeves .244 and .227 marks, respectively
Shane Youman (3-2) gave up two runs on six hits over five innings
to earn the win for Altoona
New Hampshire starter Ismael Ramirez (4-5) gave up six runs -
only two earned - on six hits over four innings for the loss
