Heard during the game

(#01) During Brett's first at-bat, the commentator mentioned - "Coming in to tonight's game, Brett was third in the Eastern League with a batting average of 314 ...... he is actually in second place because Adam Boeve, who is listed in that spot, is now playing for Indiamapolis in the 'AAA' League"

Email from Brett

I had a good game tonight - but only went 1-for-4
I don't care what the commentator said!!
I smoked the ball in the second, third, and fifth at bats!!
So I felt great!!

Game Reports

Thanks to a great outing by starter Mike Connolly (pictured),
the Altoona Curve defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-0,
Friday evening at Merchants Auto.Com Stadium
Connolly brought a no-hitter into the sixth, only allowing two hits total
over seven innings, in picking up his sixth victory of the year

Curve blank Fisher Cats 3-0

Riding on the arm of starter Mike Connolly (6-3), the Altoona Curve defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-0, Friday evening at Merchants Auto.com Stadium

Connolly only allowed two hits through seven innings, striking out six and walking two
The lefty had a no-hitter going until Fisher Cat DH Curtis Thigpen singled to left with two outs in the sixth inning

The Curve jumped on top with a first inning run courtesy of a Simon Pond double to center, scoring Vic Buttler from second base

Pond would later score in the sixth inning after a Ray Sadler triple

Fisher Cat starter Davis Romero (6-5) picked up the loss, but pitched well through six innings
The southpaw limited the Curve to five hits, striking out nine while walking two

Brett Roneberg, who currently ranks third in the Eastern League in batting average, drove in Brandon Chaves with a ninth inning, two out single to center

The insurance run wouldn't matter however as Brandon Knight shut the Fisher Cats down in the ninth to pick up his eight save

The game was Altoona’s first since Tuesday after their last two games in Portland were postponed due to rain
Since those two teams do not have any remaining game scheduled, the games will not be rescheduled
As a result, the Curve will finish with a total of 140 games played, as opposed to the 142 which were originally scheduled

The Curve and Fisher Cats continue their three game series tomorrow at 5.05pm
Shane Youman will be on the hill for Altoona against Ismael Ramirez

Altoona is in the middle of a stretch in which the club is playing fourteen of seventeen games on the road

The Curve, who own the Eastern League’s best home record at 22-9, return to Blair County Ballpark on Tuesday June 13 for a three-game series against Harrisburg

Connolly controls Fisher Cats

Michael Connolly gave up two hits over seven innings as Altoona topped New Hampshire, 3-0, on Friday at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium

Connolly (6-3) struck out six and walked one while lowering his ERA to 3.86 in thirteen starts

Chris Hernandez and Brandon Knight each allowed a hit in one inning, with Knight earning his eighth save

Simon Pond slapped an RBI double in the first and scored in the sixth on a triple by Ray Sadler

Brett Roneberg added a run-scoring single in the ninth for the Curve (35-24)

Altoona's Brandon Chaves went 3-for-5 with a run scored

New Hampshire starter Davis Romero (6-5) surrendered two runs on five hits over six innings as his ERA climbed to 2.93 in twelve starts
He fanned nine and walked two

In the sixth, Pond walked and scored on a triple by RF Ray Sadler

The Curve added a run in the ninth inning on singles by 3B Brandon Chaves (3-for-5) and DH Brett Roneberg against Fisher Cat reliever Rodney Ormond

New Hampshire (26-32) will look to bounce back Saturday at 5.05pm with RHP Ismael Ramirez (4-4, 1.56) against Altoona LHP Shane Youman (2-2, 1.62)

Connolly silences Fisher Cats

Mike Connolly was close to unhittable Friday night

The Curve lefty allowed only two hits over seven dominant innings in helping Altoona to a 3-0 win against New Hampshire at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium

The Curve won for only the second time in their past eight games

Connolly (6-3) combined with two relievers for a four-hitter and, for a day at least, bailed out the Curve’s beleaguered pitching staff, which had surrendered 54 runs in the last seven games
Connolly struck out six and walked one

Fisher Cats starter Davis Romero (6-5) also pitched well but was saddled with the loss
The left-hander allowed two runs and struck out a season-high nine batters in six innings

Connolly didn’t officially allow a hit until Curtis Thigpen lined a single to left field with two outs in the sixth inning

The only other hit Connolly allowed came in the third, when Eric Arnold hit a blooper that deflected off second baseman Craig Stansberry’s glove and landed in shallow right field
The play originally was scored an error on Stansberry, but later was changed to a hit after Connolly surrendered the single to Thigpen
Arnold made a large turn toward second on the play and was thrown out at first base

The Curve cashed in on some timely hitting, scoring all their runs on two-out hits

In the first inning, Vic Buttler beat out an infield groundball to shortstop and stole second on the next pitch
Simon Pond then doubled into the left-center field gap to give Altoona a 1-0 lead
Pond, who led the league in RBI's for much of the season before New Hampshire’s Adam Lind overtook him on June 3, drove in a run for the first time in eight games

The Curve provided some insurance for Connolly when Ray Sadler hit an RBI triple in the sixth inning
and Brett Roneberg singled in another run in the ninth

Brandon Knight pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his eighth save
