Heard during the game

(#01) During Brett's fourth at-bat, the commentator mentioned his sacrifice fly earlier in the game, saying - "That could have easily been an RBI double instead of a sacrifice fly except for a magnificent catch taken by the Baysox centrefielder!!!"

!!! First ERROR of the season !!!
During the top of the eighth inning, the Baysox were batting with one down and runners at first and third base - the next batter ripped a ball which was "hit right at Roneberg in leftfield and he couldn't handle it and the runner came in to score ...... that will be a tough one for the official scorers to rule on, as it could be either a hit or an error because it was a difficult ball for Roneberg to judge ...... they have given it an error to Roneberg ...... the official ruling was 'SacFlyE7' and this was decided because the runner would have scored even if Brett had taken the catch and they felt it wrong to take away the RBI from the batter because of the error"
Below is the official Game Log for that innings:-
Pitcher Change - James Johnson replaces Michael Connolly
Rayner Bautista singles on a ground ball to left fielder Brett Roneberg
Gerardo Alvarez walks. Rayner Bautista to 2nd
Jeff Fiorentino flies out to center fielder Vic Buttler. Rayner Bautista to 3rd
Noah Hall hits a sacrifice fly. Fielding error by left fielder Brett Roneberg. Rayner Bautista scores. Gerardo Alvarez to 2nd. Noah Hall to 1st
Tony Alvarez flies out to right fielder Ray Sadler. Gerardo Alvarez to 3rd
Leo Daigle strikes out swinging, catcher David Parrish to first baseman Simon Pond

to breeze by the Bowie Baysox 10-2 on Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark
Starter Mike Connolly won his 24th career game in a Curve uniform, tying the team record
Vic Buttler once again was the catalyst for the Curve offense,
hitting his league-leading ninth triple and a leadoff home run in the third inning

Connolly ties record as Curve roll Baysox, 10-2

The Curve used a mix of early offensive fire power and free passes to breeze by the Bowie Baysox 10-2 on Tuesday night at Blair County Ballpark

Mike Connolly (4-3) made franchise history, earning his 24th victory in a Curve uniform to tie the team record set by John Grabow (2000-2003) and Brian O’Conner (1999-00, 02)

Connolly pitched a gem for the Curve to pick up his fourth win of the year, surrendering just one run on two hits
The 24-year-old settled down and cruised through the Baysox lineup after giving up a first-inning run, and retired 20 of the final 22 hitters he faced

The Curve answered the early tally by Bowie, scoring eight runs in the first three innings

Vic Buttler led the charge for the Curve yet again, hitting his ninth triple of the year in his first at-bat, the most in professional baseball
The center fielder later hit a leadoff home run in the third, his fourth this season

Bowie starter Richard Stahl was handed his sixth loss of the season, lasting just 2-1/3 innings
Stahl, the Orioles first round pick in 1999, only allowed five hits but gave up eight runs on six walks
The southpaw was pulled in the third after facing six batters and only recording one out

Altoona utilized four free passes and a wild pitch to send ten batters to the plate in the third inning
Buttler, Dave Parrish and Eric Chaves all collected RBI’s for the Curve, building them a comfortable 8-1 lead

The Curve would later score two more in the sixth, sealing their 28th win of the year

James Johnson, who was activated from the DL on May 20, pitched the final two innings for the Curve, allowing one run on two hits in two innings pitched

The Curve and Baysox will resume their series on Wednesday morning at 10.35am as part of a School Kids Day
Chris Rojas will take the mound for the first time for the Curve against Matt Bruback (1-2) for Bowie

Connolly ties team record for wins

Michael Connolly pitched seven innings of two-hit ball to match the Curve record for wins as Altoona cruised past visiting Bowie, 10-2, on Tuesday

Connolly (4-3) gave up one run, struck out two and walked one en route to his club record-tying 24th win with the Curve (28-17)
He tied John Grabow (2000-03) and Brian O'Connor (1999-2002)

David Parrish went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored for Altoona, boosting his average to .455 in six games since signing with the Pirates organization on May 9

Bowie starter Richard Stahl (1-6) was pounded for eight runs on five hits over 2-1/3 innings
He walked six batters, including three in a row to set up Altoona's five-run third inning

Leo Daigle and Noah Hall had sacrifice flies for the Baysox (22-23), who lost their fourth in a row

Baysox, Stahl Carved by Curve 10-2
Pitching, Hitting Non-Existent - Sox Sub .500

As the Baysox offense continues to struggle for runs, Tuesday night the pitching didn’t fair any better as the Altoona Curve hammered the Baysox 10-2 for the team’s sixth loss in their last seven games

LHP Richard Stahl was rocked for eight runs on five hits in just 2.1 IP for his sixth loss of the season

Altoona made four errors but the visiting Baysox could not capitalize on any of Curve’s mistakes all night

Jeff Fiorentino scored the first run of the game on a sac fly off the bat of 1B Leo Daigle in the top of the 1st inning

It was just about all Curve from thereon

The hot hitting Curve carved up Stahl for two in the 1st, another in the 2nd and five more in the 3rd

Walks killed the southpaw Tuesday night as he allowed six free passes compared to zero strikeouts
It was the first time a Baysox starting pitcher has failed to register a ‘K’ in a single start all season long

The Curve’s lone run in the 2nd inning was the direct result of the leadoff man drawing a walk
Following a solo shot by Vic Buttler, who also tripled in a run in the 1st inning, the next three runs had reached base in three straight walks
With the bases juiced a passed ball by Ryan Hubele allowed the first run to score
A single, a double and a ground out plated the next three runs and the Baysox found themselves in a deep 8-1 hole, one in which they have not been able to hit their way out of all season long

Noah Hall and Pete Shier helped get one run back in the 8th with a single to left
Three batters later, Hall collected his 10th RBI with a sac fly to straight away center

However, by then the damage had been done and the Curve were sitting comfortable atop a 10-2 lead, which would be the final score

With the Baysox fourth straight loss and a win by the Erie SeaWolves, the 'Wolves have now surpassed the Baysox for 4th place in the Southern Division
Bowie sits in 5th place with a record of 22-23

On Deck
45 games into the season the Baysox have dropped below .500 for the first time all year at 22-23
Wednesday they will look to rectify their situation in the standings and win the third game of this series
With LHP Adam Loewen being recalled to Baltimore in place of Hayden Penn on Tuesday, RHP Matt Bruback will get the nod for Bowie

Curve pitcher Mike Connolly works on the mound against Bowie Tuesday night

Curve match solid pitching with contagious hitting

Curve starter Mike Connolly didn’t need much run support in dusting off Bowie on Tuesday night
Altoona’s hitters gave it to him anyway, torturing the Baysox pitchers all night

The Curve rode Connolly’s strong pitching and their sizzling bats to a 10-2 win before 4,018 fans at Blair County Ballpark

Altoona ripped 12 hits and cashed in on nine walks, while Connolly overcame a slow start to pitch seven strong innings

Vic Buttler hit his league-leading ninth triple of the season and later added a home run

Five different Curve hitters drove in runs, and for the 10th time this year, eight of the nine starters tallied a hit

“That’s always great when everyone in the lineup is hitting” Buttler said
“Hitting is contagious, so when everyone’s hitting, we’re scoring runs and momentum’s rolling”

Altoona knocked Bowie starter Richard Stahl (1-6) out of the game with a five-run third inning, saddling him with an ugly line of eight earned runs and six walks over 2-1/3 innings

Connolly (4-3) had his troubles in the first inning but labored through it on 26 pitches
The left-hander gave up hits to two of the first three batters, then allowed a sacrifice fly to Leo Daigle for a 1-0 Bowie lead

Connolly blamed the tough start on “just being a little bit overaggressive, you know, with the fastball, not hitting a couple of spots here and there”
The left-hander settled down after that, retiring 20 of his final 22 batters

The win was the 24th of his Curve career, matching the franchise record held by John Grabow and Brian O’Connor

“That was easily his best outing of the year” Curve manager Tim Leiper said
“He commanded both sides of the plate, threw his offspeed for strikes
That was fun to watch”

Connolly needed only 64 pitches to get through his final six innings, and he improved to 5-0 with a 2.13 ERA all-time against Bowie

“It seems like they catch me on a good day” Connolly said
“It’s always helpful when the guys get runs for you, and the guys played great behind me tonight, so I was able to go out there and challenge the hitters”

The Curve jumped on Stahl from the get-go, scoring twice in the first inning
Buttler started things with an RBI triple and scored the go-ahead run on Brett Roneberg’s sacrifice fly

Altoona added a run in the second and broke it open with five in the third

Buttler led off the big third inning by hammering a Stahl offering over the right-center field wall for his fourth home run
He finished the game 2-5 with two RBIs and is hitting .400 (22-for-55) over his last 14 games

“Right now, there’s no more special player in the league than him” Leiper said
“I don’t even get the feeling that he’s really hot
He comes here every day and does the same thing
He gets himself in a good position to hit, and he’s able to get the barrel to the baseball
And when he’s doing that, he’s hitting lots of triples and there’s really no way to pitch him right now”

Stahl walked the next three batters, helping the Curve break things open
David Parrish had an RBI single and Brandon Chaves a run-scoring double to highlight the inning

The Curve completed their scoring with two runs off Bowie reliever Calvin Maduro in the sixth inning, getting another RBI single from Parrish and a run-scoring groundout from Chaves

Altoona benefited from nine free passes issued by the Baysox pitchers, but Leiper credited his hitters for earning them
“Walks help, but we earned that by going out and swinging the bats” the manager said

Once the game was safely out of reach, the Curve hitters began rooting for Buttler to hit for the cycle, a feat no Curve player has ever accomplished
“The guys on my team, you know, they get on your back, ‘Let’s go, let’s go. Double next, single next’” Buttler said
“It put a little more pressure on me, but I enjoy it and have fun”

Leiper also can have fun watching his explosive offense
“For me, yeah, it’s easy, because there’s really nothing to do” Leiper said, laughing
“The more games that I can stay out of, the better the team’s going to be”
